Almost a refueling oops

So last night I was buckyballing along and it was almost time for bed , so I was pretty sleepy. I popped into this system and see it is a nice K looking star. I swoop in.... and in.... and in and the wonder "Why haven't I started fuel scooping??" I am just about to smack into the star when I realized it was a T Tauri and swerved out of the way just in the nick of time!

Anyone else done this?? :D

All the darn time :p Generally I do a fly-by as I'm pointing to the next sys and gradually get closer and closer before I realise something fishy is going on and its a T type :p
Been a few close calls...

yup ;)

It's pretty normal, I guess - always thanked the Lords of Kobol that my Python ran as cold as the coming winter during DW.

My favorite, though, is turning off the orbit lines for screenshots, forgetting to turn them on again, and realizing it seconds before hitting the exclusion zone after the next jump.

Happened to me a few times, but i never fly straight into the star. Always point at the horizon and listen during fuel scoop approach.
I fly with orbit lines turned off all the time and without any music - only the sound effects.
It is really easy to spot if i am in the vicinity of an unscoopable star as the sounds differ when you enter the corona.

Yep. All the time, TTauri's can mimic any star in the game, its fine if you are scanning first, but buckyballing it can be a real issue.

Normal exploration, yes !

Buckyballing, never. Since I am on 100% throttle 100% of the time, I know that skimming a star gets my scoop out within a couple of seconds, otherwise I pull away. Also I know my Asp inside out, once temp is over 52% and no scoop yet, I pull away :)

However I, for example, did have 3 E-Stops on my way to Beagle point. I blame the TV :D

My problem is that I'm a distracted driver in game. I've got the music playing, half the time I'm tabbed over to my browser or I'm just so tired that I'm not paying attention but I just want to reach my waypoint and log.

LOL I have time while in FSD to look at stuff. I can hear the sound of the drive and know when it is time to tab back over. I also found out that if you tab back over as you jump into the system, it shuts your thrusters down so you don't have any velocity. That has saved me a couple of times.

I use a tablet, much safer :D

Erm, shut throttle down ? I never do when BBing, always 100% :)

While fueling I've targetted the star to scan it. Then once fuelled forgot I was targetting and couldn't work out why my destination was always behind the star. Then flew into the star.
Also occasionally the gravity ring doesn't appear and you fly into the star trying to skirt it.
Been those, done those.

One thing that happened to me few days ago - i arrived at a system, centered the main star to scan it and then opened the Galaxy map to plot the next route.
Since i was in the core the route plotting was very slow and i decided to get a snack.
Half an hour later i exited the Galaxy map only to find my ship refueled and inside the star's corona. [woah]
Needless to say i never leave my ship pointed to a star anymore. :D

I usually scan the star and check the system map before I start scooping, so I can orient myself to direction I want to pull away.
I also always approach the star at a shallow angle instead of diving straight in, which takes a bit longer to ramp up the scoop rate but it's safer.

That said, it has happened to me a few times if I'm speeding through and I haven't scanned the star or checked the system map.
If the temp starts to rise and I haven't started scooping yet, I stop and check the system map to see what the start type is.
More than once it turned out to be an M type and I just wasn't close enough yet, but better safe than sorry.

When I buckyball, I have the throttle at full. When you tab over as you are arriving in a system, the game automatically zeros the throttle. Maybe it's a key binding I changed. My throttle goes to zero whenever I ctrl+alt+space to get the exterior shots too. So it has to be a binding.

I think I read in the release notes that that won't happen anymore.
Definitely read the debug camera won't affect throttle anymore (it didn't before horizons iirc) and sure I read something about windows players throttle zero focus or something which I assume to mean tabbing out.

Found this:
Fixed throttle setting itself to zero when exiting from hyperspace or super cruise while the game doesn't have focus

Was a bug, has been removed in 2.1, do not attempt, you will hit a star.

I maintain those bugs are features.
