Alpha Centauri - Hutton Orbital - Holy Space Balls Batman

Ah, the days of running out of fuel in the Alpha Centauri system - went there for old time's sake (didn't run out of fuel though).

Rgr that...

I agree 100% - also - I would assume my fuel bill is going to be massive, SC'ing .22LY out... lol 10k, not worth it, would kill the quest, but don't want to lose the rep, catch 22 :-(

Get a 300 cr fuel scoop (or better) - effectively nulls fuel costs from there on :D

I'm all into 'realism' I love this game because it conveys that sensation of vast distances. But an hour in SC is a bit much.
One could argue that nobody forces us to go there, but I think that's not addressing the real issue.
We should be able to make micro-jumps within systems. Or have SC accelerate at a faster pace.

So I pick up a lousy 10k mission from SOL to deliver goods to Hutton Orbital in Alpha Centauri...

About 10 minutes now in SuperCruise and I am .21LY out still!!!!

At this rate I am looking at a 30 (edit... this is more like 50 minutes) minute SuperCruise session, full throttle, what is the deal with this ? Tell me I am missing something here...

P.S.

What does the little yellow wire globe mean next to the System name?

When you open a mission Dialogue box, you can, whilst it is still open, open the galaxy map, then system map of the destination.
Check list
  • How many stars in the system?
    • If more than one, check the mass - you will jump in at the most massive one
  • Which star is the planet the station orbiting?
    • If it is the other star to the most massive one; what is the semi major axis of the stars? Multiply that by 500 to get the number of light seconds (approx.)
    • If not, what is the semi major axis of the planet? Multiply that by 500 to get the number of light seconds (approx.)
  • Decide if it is a mission you want to take
Don't have the system data?
Buy it or take the risk.

Prior planning prevents long trips for the unwilling

Its a rite of passage... Everyone has to visit hutton orbital on alpha centauri at least once in their lives... And then start a thread about it

It took me around 40 minutes to actually get there. Unfortunately you aren't missing something.

Alpha Centauri is a trinary system, and Hutton is orbiting Proxima Centauri which is, as you now know, a quatre of a light year away from Alpha Centauri A - practically a different solar system.

Either the mission screen needs to show the target station's distance from it's primary star, or we should be able to pick which star to jump too within a multi-star system.

At either rate, whenever I see the AC mission popup I now know to ignore it - which is frustrating as it's one of the few high-paying trade missions that seems to exist from Earth.

Good points, we need more information (and get paid based on distance), because Proxima is used loosely in this case...

I am not the first person to ask for more than one Nav beacon in a system like this, but i am guessing its fairly low on FD's priority list considering everything else. This is one of the reasons i don't take cargo missions, in case i am having to boot it for 10+ minutes across a system to deliver 4 tons of animal waste.

Yes i know this is a space "sim" but in the same way ARMA is a soldier "sim". You aren't made to tie your boots or clean your flippin' gun every time you start a mission, this annoys me, but i am sure purists disagree.

Hutton Orbital was the first space station constructed by Ryanair.

That's why you land 1/4 light year away from your eventual destination.

^^^ This made me howl with laughter, and a little despair...

AAARGH!!! I just got stung by this. What IDIOT built a space station over there? Ability to choose what star to jump to PLEASE!!!

If all stations were at that distance that would be a reason to complain. But it's just this one and I think it's great. It wouldn't be a famous station otherwise.

I don't know about you guys but I hope there are more stations like this, and you know why?
It should be tweaked that so there is a reason to go there. More prices, more profit.
Yeah right now its useless, but hope it will change in future.

It took me an hour and a half to arrive at Hutton Orbital and I had no mission to go there. There is, however, rare goods there if you do happen to wait out the ridiculous fly time to arrive. Now I can say I've done what some don't have the patience for!
