Alpha Centauri Warning..

Which Beta is that then ? In every release SC has been limited to 2001c and it takes 1hr 40mins to get to Hutton.

I guess you have never reached 3500c - or ever seen somebody else do it ?

Top speed used to be higher than 2001c. Not quite 3500c, but it was faster.

The decreased top speed doesn't have any major impact tbh - that was up at 2500C which you only get to in very specific cases, overall you should find journeys 20-30% faster.

Over the same journey you'll now take longer to build up speed (as this gives more space for visual/audio effects to sell the acceleration, WIP), but you'll reach a much higher speed as all the gravity wells around planets/stars were shrunk - meaning the overall journey should be shorter. 'Tis very much a touchy feely thing though, liable to more change!

Also the bottom speed was only increased from 20KM/s to 30KM/s - not a big chage given the scales involved ;).

Wow... 2014!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

This would take so much away from the game and most of all, remove one of the Hutton truckers rights of passage.

I wish people would stop trying to speed every bloody thing up, its fine as it is.

Actually, the last time I saw Sandro discuss this on a stream, not that long ago, I believe FD were leaning against this idea altogether, despite originally stating that the idea was fitting for the lore of the FSD and something they'd consider. So you needn't worry. Not that a star mini jump would have actually taken anything away from you.

Well, I wish I'd looked in to Hutton Orbital before taking this passenger mission. Anyway, on the plus side I've enjoyed reading this whole thread while on the journey. I now see it as a rite of passage and am enjoying it now. As I type my Keelback is at 1558c and slowly climbing and I have 57 minutes to run. All this for a 2.5m passenger mission.

How on earth do you make it there without running out of fuel! Can jump there with hyoperdrive and a explore class Cobra doesn't have the range to make a normal flight up to 1600C at the moment and still predicts a hour... i have 10% fuel left :D

Wait, did you fill up at the star before starting the trip? A full 16 ton tank should be able to get you there, shouldn't it?

I never had a problem with fuel when I went there. I was flying a cobra with a standard fuel tank. Of course I did go there from Barnard's or someplace fairly close. It was well below my maximum jump range.

This thread makes me wanna take a trip out to Hutton, just to say that I finally did it (never did since the game launched)

Get yer mug

Those mugs are over rated. Nothing wrong with them (except you have to get bored out of your skull to get one), but I don't see how that makes them special. Of course you could use to hold the whiskey to get stinking drunk to forget how you were so bored you were ready to pop the canopy without your helmet in place :D

Hutton mugs are not given away just for going to Hutton Orbital - indeed, you have to do something much sillier than that usually.

I've been out of here for a while & decided to see how ED has progressed.
I did the Hutton trip a long time ago, back in 2014 I think

EDIT found my original post (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/alpha-centauri-warning.63056/post-1115689),

This was before there was a mug. I remember thinking there should be some window sticker or t-shirt for making the journey.
Can someone please tell me about the mug? Is it a virtual mug? Does it sit on your dashboard? I need to know, so that I can decide if it is worth making a second trip to get one.

Thanks :)

It's a rare commodity. As in, it goes in your cargo hold.

... This is one persistent thread.

We ought to be able to hyperspace that distance.
which is interesting because I've found other star systems where the primary and secondary were closer then hutton and you could hyperspace between then because they were treated by the game as separate star systems.
