Alright, let's get serious about birds...

Honestly, I'm tired of being told to be patient with birds. We have been patient for years now with no result. I would be okay with waiting another 2 years, if I knew they would show up at the end. But right now nothing is indicating they are actually going to do something about it.

It is better to speak up than to sit and wait for what might be nothing.

At first i tought they would save birds for a sequel, but now with the long success of the game and the new exhibits for bats and butterflies, i think they are building a solid base for a full bird expansion. So in my opinion birds will come to the game, just have patience, Frontier knows that birds=money 😉
Ikr!

Im saying big expansions like Zoo Tycoon that cost 20+ € and bring closer to what Zoo Tycoon packs brought would do birds and aquatics better justice then a regular DLC

Even if it was 5 iconic habitat + 10 Exhibit, that would bring us a lot closer to realistic zoos!
I was never a fan of the idea of a Planet zoo 2. Waiting presumeably multiple years for the DLCs to get up to the level were at now seems like hell :D
I agree, i would heavily prefer bigger add ons or expansions for PZ. I would glady pay more for such a thing

I really think confirming if they intent to implement stuff like birds and aquatics is the right call for frontier.
I mean it would spoil the surprise a bit but would definetly help people enjoy other DLCs for what they are instead of being disapointed that its not birds again.

I'll guarantee you even with 10 birds we are nowhere near the amount to correctly portraying a real zoo. The average recreation i build has no less than 40 species of workshop sourced static birds, yeah it's a step but we need multiple animal packs worth of small birds alone to consider real zoo collections

I have said a couple of times very similar remarks.
I am super excited about birds, and that's part of the reasons I really don't want them to be introduced in Planet Zoo as one WE species in a regular pack. I think birds deserve a dedicated Animal Pack for themselves (more than 2 and 3, in fact). It's an animal group with extreme degree of diversity, we need lots of them at the same time so it doesn't look weird.
For example, if they had included a Bali myna in this pack, the poor guy being alone in our walkthrough exhibits for at least 3 months, bearing the weight of being the only flying bird in the game. And 3 months later, one single macaw or eagle or something like that? That would be a bigger bummer IMHO.

I really hope we could have them some day, and I am 99% convinced about Frontier being working towards getting them. But my problem is that I am not sure at all that we will be able to reach a significant bird diversity in the game lifespan, specially if the way to go is having just one WE bird species per pack. That's where my optimism ends. I think we have 4 possible scenarios:
  • Worst case: no aviaries or flying birds at all (5% chance)
  • Disappointing: few birds, giving 1 WE species in most of remaining future DLCs, but at least that gives plenty of room for more species via mods (25% chance)
  • Kinda good: some birds, we get 1-3 dedicated DLCs, something like an Aviary Pack with 5 birds and building pieces for aviaries and two Animal Pack with 8 more birds each one (60% chance)
  • Ideal: lots of birds, we get 2-4 dedicated DLCs, and Frontier breaks their DLC policy giving us more than 5 or 8 species per pack, which may sound wildly optimistic but it's not so different from the butterflies in last winter pack or when they released their first Animal Pack and we had been so sure that all DLCs needed to be with the 4+1 model (10% chance)

I also really hope we get birds eventually. But i honestly think that they wont have the diversity like they have in zoos or even what that number would be broken down in relation to habitat animals in game.

I guess its more realistic to think that they would only implement the big names like macaws, toucans, bald eagles and such. 10-15 species seems like a realistic number to me

These are some of my personal wants for HABITAT bird species:
• Roseate Spoonbill
• Scarlet Ibis
• Waldrapp Ibis
• Victoria Crowned Pigeon
• Nicobar Pigeon
• American Flamingo
• Burrowing Owl
• Greater Roadrunner
• Greater Rhea
• Secretary Bird
• Grey Crowned Crane
• Golden Pheasant
• Southern Rockhopper Penguin
• Little Blue Penguin
• Great White Pelican
• Mute Swan
• Mandarin Duck
• Mallard Duck
• Common Eider
• Domestic Chicken sp.

And here are some (sets of five or individuals) that would work perfectly with the current Walkthrough Exhibit mechanics:
• Budgerigar
• Fischer’s Lovebird
• Bali Myna
• Galah
• Lorikeets (Rainbow Lorikeet, Citrine Lory, Black Capped Lory, Dusky Lory, Chattering Lory)
• Amazons (Cuban Amazon, Yellow Billed Amazon, Black Billed Amazon, Hispaniolan Amazon, Puerto Rican Amazon)
• Finches and Grosbeaks (Gouldian Finch, European Greenfinch, Glaucous-Blue Grosbeak, Pine Grosbeak, Japanese Grosbeak)
• Conures (Sun Conure, Golden Conure, Crimson Bellied Conure, Blue Crowned Conure, Peach Fronted Conure)
• Rollers (Lilac Breasted Roller, European Roller, Indian Roller, Blue Bellied Roller, Racket Tailed Roller)
• Rosellas (Eastern Rosella, Northern Rosella, Crimson Rosella, Green Rosella, Pale Headed Rosella)
• Hummingbirds and Mountaingems (Broad Tailed Hummingbird, Calliope Hummingbird, Black Chinner Hummingbird, Amethyst Throated Mountaingem, Green Throated Mountaingem)

All of these birds I’ve listed can exist in game with the current mechanics we have. There would be no additional aviary mechanic needed, as the habitat species listed are very terrestrial (even those that can fly), and the walkthrough exhibit species would be able to be housed in such exhibits in real zoos, and are kept in large groups like the already flying in game bats and butterflies.

So programming wise, I don’t think there’s anything holding the devs BACK from introducing any of the birds above. They are all absolutely possible and would add SO MUCH to the game. I’m by no means expecting all of these, but certainly some could be introduced to the game sooner rather than never. Please? :)

For a fully Avian pack, which I'm suspecting less and less will happen here is what I would do as an ideal. This take into account lots of things, some of which haven't happened at all yet, and may not. 4 habitat birds and 4 exhibit "type" of birds, of which will have multiple.

Secretary Bird
Shoebill Stork
Northern Brown Kiwi
Mute Swan
Eagles (x 2 - Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle)
Toucans (x2 - Toco Toucan and Keel Billed Toucan)
Macaws (x2 - Scarlet Macaw and Hyacinth Macaw)
Hornbills (x2- Rhinoceros Hornbill and Great Hornbill)

I'd still be left wanting more Macaws, and would be sad to not see Owls, Cockatoos, Woodpeckers and Kingfishers(mainly Kookaburra) but I think this idea is already pushing the lines of what Frontier will do, through either active decision or what's possible coding wise.

If we went with just Habitat acceptable birds, I'd add into the first four:
Scarlet Ibis (yes, I will want them as habitat animals)
Pelican of some species
Roseate Spoonbill
Greater Roadrunner

Marabou Stork and Grey Crowned Crane are both very close to making the cut.

I also do want to see a Little Blue Penguin, but Frontier has shown a willingness to have penguins in the game already, so there's no real reason to put it in this particular packs ideas. That, and I suspect they won't add a third penguin anyways. Though I really hope to be wrong on that.

Yea more birds would be great. I am not too gung-ho about aviary birds but I feel like e still need some habitat birds. Idealy we would get:

  • One final penguin.
  • A rhea
  • A kiwi
  • Helmeted guineafowl
  • Domestic chikun
  • One or two more cranes
  • Two pelicans
  • a lot of Anseriformes.
For aviary birds I have no idea what I would want. There are so many options I have no idea what would fit. The best thing we can do is to actually wait until we get aviery birds so we can have an easier time narrowing down what is appropiate for the game.

Finally, I really want ibises, pheasants and/or spoonbills just so we can stop arguing about wether or not they are aviary birds or not.
