Alt+Tab and the throttle...

Once upon a time,
the game would detect that you did Alt+tab out while charging for an hyperjump, and then it would automatically set the throttle to zero at the arrival system that you wont crash into the star there -
it was a great feature, and at some point it worked perfectly,
and would not override an analoge throttle.

but theses days, it will NOT do that, and your ship is exposed to some nice warm rays if you alt tab out and not return soon enough...
and for an unknown reason, it does that now for jumping into supercruise.

was that a requested feature? if yes, why was it implemented without an option to turn it off? [mad]

Or once upon a time there was a bug that blocked the game from setting the throttle after loading up a new system when the game was minimized and it got eventually fixed.

Never heard of that exceptional feature. I would never ever found it out since I never ever alt+tab in precarious situations or loading screens which just happens to be both of those situations :p

Once the countdown for the H-Jump ends, you hear a boom, and you are in h-space you can zero your throttle. Once you have set your throttle you are safe to alt-tab out.

thank you for the random information that i already know since day one, but is totally offtopic

I think already as soon as it starts the countdown you can zero throttle and be safe.
(make sure it actually works before alt tabbing [big grin])

This is correct. I just don't flip applications during loading. Too used to the computers of yonder days to stress them out while they're thinking. Them machines used to be very fickle.

'Since day one, huh? Well, Mohrgan was just letting you know that THIS hadn't changed!

& It's hardly "off-topic" anyway...since the advice allows you to alt-tab in complete idiot-proof safety...which would appear kind of pertinent in your case!

Yikes!
Good catch, Cmdr

I smell a new thread being made called "Alt-Tabing during Hyperspace : Things you can do in 7 secs"

Ride a bronco or a bull?

Yeah, this is one change Fdev did that I don't really get. I don't see the issue with the game automatically throttling to 0 if you alt-tab during a hyperjump. I don't remember if they called it a bugfix or what, but...what's the point of adding this tiny bit of extra annoyance?

FDev obviously got jealous of you being entertained, so they "fixed" this "bug" to ensure you would "enjoy" staring at the screen while you watched a progress bar slowly grow before you manually throttle to 0 and then alt tab. It's for your own "enjoyment", really.

I honestly don't know when this "fix" went through but I also remember when it would throttle you to 0 so you could comfortably press 'J' and alt tab or walk away to the bathroom or do anything other than sit idly for 15 seconds. Which adds up, I've got over 13k jumps, or over 54 hrs of 'frame shift drive, charging' before '4, 3, 2, 1.....loading....loading.....loading....' even comes into it.

Don't worry though, I'm sure you'll get a fistfull of justifications and workarounds. This place loves the workarounds.
