Alternative to Road to Riches?

I want to unlock Marco Qwent but I need a Serius permit. I hear the best way to quickly get that permit is to turn in exploration data in a Serius crop controlled station.

Now I hear the quickest way to get the exploration data is to use an external site called road to riches. It basically gives you a route and tells you where high-value systems can be found.

The problem I have is it feels like cheating to me. I want to discover these high-value planets by myself.

What's the best way to make lots of money exploring without using some external tool?

P.S. I need to take a moment to get off my chest how convoluted engineer unlocks are.

There's been some serious cheating going on in ed lately I wouldn't worry about considering this cheating man not at all. There's tons of people using some app that basically makes their ships invincible and last I heard fdev is doing nothing about it. Just another reason I'm never leaving solo mode.

You can try to filter your route to favor class F stars which are more likely to have earth like worlds and waterworlds but it's going to take a lot longer than if you just used a site like spansh.co.uk. I rarely explore much these days but early on I used that site and a few others to earn tons of creds and used the data to ally myself with whatever factions i needed to befriend while unlocking the engineers.

It's one hell of a grind I feel you but feels good when your done gl dude. o7

Get an exploration ship with some 40ly jump range, aim for 5k lx away from the bubble, filter to KGFBOAM minus M classes, they're boring, go there and back again. Now you qualify for Palin and should have enough data to feed some factions for requirements. I heard the Trifid Nebula is nice this time of year.

For max. Credits, just head out and focus on A and F type Stars.

Map all the Terraforming Candidates and Water Worlds - and you'll very easily get those ~10M Cr (or was it 20?) Exploration Data needed to jump from Neutral straight to Allied.

(shouldn't take more than 20-25 typical Systems to get those Credits, very quickly done)

Just use spansh and consider it a plug in for your ships navigational systems. After all, the data is based on already uploaded data from other explorers, all your doing is adding and confirming that data to an exploration data base that needs peer review. Its not cheating and perfectly acceptable and doesnt break immersion.
Its either that or a looong random grind out into the black.
Besides, engineer unlocks are bah humbug, its best to do what you have to, get them unlocked with as little fuss as possible... And then go exploring for undiscovered worlds.

That's exactly what I do I get straight line routes and plug the corrodinates into my ship in the form of bookmarks. Then I just delete them as I go. Haven't explored since I first started playing but using spansh I made quick easy cash in the beginning.

Making a 5k ly trip like vardaugas said is a good idea though so you can get setup for unlocking Palin. I went to omega mining when I was getting that req done. Dont you just hate useless engineers like Marco who are only needed for access to others.

What about not focusing so strongly on your unlock but just play the game and make a story out of it? Or a journey, a different aim? Your own expedition to... wherever?
You'd just have some exploration inbetween and gather the data on the fly (pun intended).
Being focused just on that one goal is exactly how you end up thinking it's a grind though it's just doing something else for a while than you normally do. Doing the road of riches tour you will just jump to the next system, scanning the next planet on the list, of course that's boring. :D

You only need ten million in exploration data to become allied with a single minor faction. That, you'll get from mapping three or four ELWs, or maybe ten or so terraformable HMCs.

If you want to rush it, just look for G or F class stars, probe map any ELWs, ammonia worlds, and terraformables you find there, and you'll very quickly have ten million. (As Vardaugas says, Agricultural economies in the bubble are a good way to find the right stars too)

If you like exploration, then just head out in a random direction, map the interesting stuff, when you've got about 50 jumps out, turn round and come back and you'll easily have enough exploration data to get Allied with Sirius. (If you have any spare after selling ten million to Sirius, you might also want to get the Alioth permit as you'll want that for another engineer later)

If you don't like exploration, then missions might be a more fun way to get the rep. You can get to Allied pretty quickly by running missions and taking the rep rewards.

I hate all the engineers. Theyre dodgy as ducks.

The clue is in the description "exploring". ;)

I've never used external tools for exploring. I just point the ship in a (usually) random direction and fly. Exploring tends to consist of periods of travelling, followed by periods of exploration (at least for me). I'll jump for an hour or so (that is usually my limit before I can take no more :) ) and then explore the local area for a bit before moving on. I've never had any problems finding high value systems. If I find systems already tagged, I'll move on straight away.

Road to riches isn't exploring. It's simply a way to make easy money.

Passenger missions out of Robigo (Hausers Reach) with Sirius Atmospherics will pay well (or high end mats), add exploration and will rep up with Sirius as well, it is a fair bit out of the bubble though.

I play in VR, so I especially don't like flipping back and forth between the game and websites. It breaks my immersion. I'm just flying outside the bubble scanning systems. I've never done any exploring so I think I'll just do that as a new experience. So, far it's a bit tedious but I could see how some may find the repetition relaxing.

Another way would be to do passenger missions as some have suggested. But I'd rather do exploring since its something I've never done.

What's dodgy about a duck?

Explore.

Taking a passenger who wants to go somewhere a few thousand ly out can provide more purpose, get you to a spectacular place and give a bit extra payout at the end.
