Amd rx 9070xt vs 3090fe

So many opinions! But all I wanna know is, is it a side grade or upgrade purely in relation to elite dangerous, specifically in VR?
Opinions range from very little to 30% upgrade in favour of this amd beast.
So i ask elites purveyors of gpu gruntage required?

And yes I'm playing elite VR in 4k

Based solely on relative Passmark scores for the 3090 and 7900 GRE (comparison here) that the 9070XT is meant to be about 20% more performant than, the 3090 is about the same as the 7900 GRE so the 9070 XT should offer a c.20% improvement, depending on particular workload. Worth noting that the 3090 has 24GB of VRAM whereas the 9070 XT only has 16GB.

I have the 7900XTX, it's fine.

Remember the 9070XT is not marketed as high-end (which the 7900XTX was) but the 9070XT is nearly as powerful and has better efficiency.

I'd forgotten about that - which takes a bit of the sting out of making multiple fruitless attempts to purchase an MSRP 9070 XT yesterday.

Just to increase the resolution in my headset (pimax CL) and have the hmd set at 2.0 instead of 1.25 or 1.5
maybe even push the slider in pimaxs res settings up a bit too. Makes it look better.

I'm interested in the seemingly significant improvement in RT performance (compared to my 7900XT) and the addition of FSR4 - even though neither is of use in this game.

same thought here, at the moment RX 9070XT have best "price/raster power/power usage" ratio, at least for ED that do not use modern upscaling tech.

i know this doesn’t really help Thought id throw it out there anyway. I have a 6900Xt and run in medium settings with a Pimax Crystal light and pretty happy with performance. Once i tried VR I could never go back
I do have have 4090 I plan to upgrade soon.
