Elite / Frontier Amiga Forever

With Elite Dangerous being successfully funded and my pledge coming out of my account this morning, I felt an overwhelming urge to play Frontier.

If you miss the old games of the Amiga and dont have access to legitimate ROMs for WIN(UAE) you can purchase a licensed copy from cloanto at http://www.amigaforever.com/ .

I have both Amiga Forever and C64 Forever (Plus Editions of both) and play old games on a regular basis.

I am not affiliated with Cloanto in any way.

I have these too GuruNot and can certainly recommend them both if you don't have an original machine. Both the C64 & the Amiga had some of the greatest games ever.

All seem worthy but ...

Although FS-UAE has the AROS ROM (which is also included with Amiga Forever) only Amiga Forever has licensed KickStart ROMS and Workbench.

I still think it is the best complete legal solution.

Even though the PC version had better graphics i think the Amiga version had a much better atmosphere for some strange reason.

There is certainly something that draws me this version more than any other.

I find that with a lot of the old Amiga Games to be honest, the graphics were what was capable at the time, where they excel is gameplay.

Gurunot: Have you managed to set up & run Frontier using FS-UAE without problem yet?

I tried running it but fails during start up on the launcher. I can successfully run Amiga's Frontier using WinUAE with some of the following:

cd32.adf & saves.adf
kickstart310.rom & rom.key
RAM Chip ~ 2MB
CPU Type ~ 68020
Display centered.

With these settings as a benchmark for FS-UAE, all I'm getting is a screen saying waiting for bootable media. Any suggestions?

I play both Elite & Frontier on both DOS & Amiga emulators and I do agree with you the Amiga version of Frontier is more atmospheric that the PC-Dos version.

Cheers

CRACKED IT!

After a bit of tweaking here & there, I managed to get it running. Got to say, it runs like a peach & full screen too.

The interface is amazing. Probably the best Amiga emulator there is.

Yes, got it running straight away. Running under Amiga 1200 (68020) profile with both disks mapped. Tweaked the RAM a little too.

Glad to hear you cracked it too and I Agree that the interface is very nice, will keep it as my primary I think.

That intro for Frontier just blue me away when I first saw it. One of my favourite games at the time. I still have my A3000 tucked away in my wardrobe I think. I wonder how long it will be before it is actually worth something again? :)
