Amusing BGS manipulation

So I belong to a PMF that operates on the edges of the bubble. The PMF recently started popping up missions for nerve agent. Interesting. So I went and brought them 2-3 nerve agent missions, because smuggling is fun, and suddenly the local Federation minor enters Outbreak and starts demanding all the medicine ever.

It took me a second to put two and two together, that the outbreak was PROBABLY MY FAULT. My faction was engaging in biological warfare! What have I done?????

Well I had an amusing afternoon grinding Federation rank by donating all the money to the local federation faction, improving myself all the way from Neutral to nearly Allied in one evening with donations and medicine runs, all for a plague that I created. All delightfully Machiavellian, and really a surprise moment of interest and fun for me.

I guess all I'm saying is, every now and again it's fun to emerge from the grind and catch an emergent narrative as it evolves. I'll keep following the story of that outbreak and see if something happens next. Does the Federation faction figure out that the PMF was reponsible and start a civil war? Or do things just fizzle out with the Federation faction in a reduced state, but much more loyal to me?

Fun times. :)

Civil war would happen if two factions are close in influence to each other, and the system is both their home system. But yes, certain mission types can cause a greater likelihood of outbreaks and famines of happening.

Well yes I know that, that's how I knew it was my fault. I just didn't realize my faction would turn the nerve agent on their own neighbors (which in an enclosed environment like a space station is a pretty risky and stupid thing to do!)

Well, the outbreak status is triggered on the faction you delivered it to. So if it was a source & return mission, it would affect itself. Not sure if there are source & return missions for nerve agents though. Is that what they were?

Factions are often in more than one system. So it's likely that the OP did cause the outbreak by delivering the goods in the nearby systems.

I've often seen a sphere of chaos in the systems surrounding ones where we have had a campaign to flip a system. It was worse when mission targets had their influence increased by missions. Passenger missions still have this effect.

It's good to trip over fun. Sometimes I go into crevasses to spend a happy hour getting out again because I did it once.

Long live BGS play.

Be careful. Once that hamster bites, it bites hard.

This is what a lot of players miss out on and when you try to share the experience the game delivers, you get hit with this - 'imagination gameplay'.

The constant delivery smash of A to B for end result 'credit' is a loop too many get wrapped up in and then these delivery smashers moan about the game lacking depth or interesting activities. Those who dont get the game will moan until the game we play and enjoy is stripped away from us.

:D Welcome to the best kept secret in Elite- players are making a difference with every run they make! Like the guys say, be careful, because once you realise the potential for becoming a one ship Illuminati, it's a really difficult temptation to resist.

I used to be a smuggler, but these days I'm (a small) part savior and (a huge) part profiteer!

Why can I hear a melody of the theme tunes of Only Fools and Horses and Steptoe and Son playing in my mind.......? ;)

I really need to find a struggling communist faction and help them achieve a glorious revolution for the people.

This faction would be perfect for you. Struggling under Corporate overloardship and suffering from a virulent Outbreak, the Achian Workers Party yearns for freedom from their paymasters and dreams of the day of a glorious Communiust takeover of McKee Terminal and the overthrow of the corporate lapdogs that dominate the politics there.

Thanks! I'm going today!

Some people accidentally release a deadly plague.

Others do it deliberately for fun and profit. :D
