In a nutshell, it's extremely unlikely that there'll be any "rewrite" of anything because the game will need to remain functional for those who choose NOT to purchase the update as well as those who do.

I mean, I guess it's vaguely possible that FDev might devote a significant amount of time and effort to re-designing that stuff and then they'll make it a free update for everybody but that'll mean the paid update is likely to be something trivial as a result.

Through the miracle of time-travel, I have been to an alternate 2020 and have obtained secret footage of how the ED community responds to this:-

Checked today is 3 Apr down under and 2 Apr on your end AA ...

Can you share a link to where FD wrote they will shut down their servers in 2020?

except ... they aren't?

those issues have never ever bothered frontier, why should they? their game has sold spectacularly, they have made huge profit and have good outlooks, even the shop has worked out. so expect them to do more of the same.

exactly what you describe is what i would have expected the 'fundamental changes' announced in beyond to be. but i really didn't, and they weren't.

there have been several opportunities to track back and frontier has taken none, meaning they are perfectly fine with what they have fitting their purpose. new era will just be an iteration in this franchise, a revamp with one or two new 'killer features', but more of the same. it's the point of a franchise.

How can players play solo unless they pay for their own server AND how would FD manage connections from multiple servers with their BGS?

Personally, I won't pay a monthly subscription to play a game.

You wouldn't need to pay for a server. You'd just run it all locally.
