Horizons An Open Letter Regarding New Players, and The Future

I like this, and if I had the time, I would have considered doing the same thing. It is very difficult, however, to calculate the difference in time that your knowledge, experience, and confidence provide, that a new player simply doesn't have - even if they do lots of research. I find that a lot of the guides and video tutorials lack some information that I consider basic, such as...where they are, which asteroid field they are in, etc. In my opinion, it is indeed, that much longer.

A fair point. I remember coming into the game with many pre-conceptions that proved to be wrong. I was very fixated on getting out of the starter ship, because I thought it would have to be a real junker. I didn't realize that I was slowing myself down by moving on too quickly. Even so, it still didn't take me months. Weeks, definitely.

OP you can do anything 'meaningful' in a sidewinder and on day 1 that you can do in any ship with any equipment that you've earned over any length of time. What you can do in game is the same for everyone regardless of experience or bank balance. Bigger and better ships are the only real progression in ED but are not the point of the game itself.

I see a lot of posts here with the gist of " a newer player can do anything a player with more credits and experience can.".

I'm still pretty new, though I've had the game a while. Here's where my game experience differs from what some veteran players estimate it must be like.

I'd like to try out all the neat stuff touted in the latest up-date, like passengers, and auxiliary ships. Wow, talk about a let-down, when I realized that update was only for the players with significantly advanced game status.
The things that were immediately noticeable to me, were that suddenly the missions I was doing payed less, the SRV could no longer be fully fueled at a station, and there were new menus at dock with no missions available for me.
Well, crud.

I'd like to visit Sol. I've been working on that one since I got my own side-winder. still not there, yet with the federation, though I could make the jumps.

It's possible I'm a crap player, but it feels like I'm being some-how punished for not being available to consistently play this game in sessions that last for hours at a time.

Why exactly can't you do passenger missions? But yes, for SLFs you need at least a Keelback.
