General An option to automatically add to the block list.

As far as I know it is possible to block a person in different (and very easy) ways, so why does it have to be automated?
I think it will be useful for beginners.
I don't agree with the blocklist mechanism myself, and my blocklist is empty despite the fact that I almost always fly in open play.
But it pains me to watch newcomers to Deciat, I want to help them and advance further in this great game rather than get completely frustrated with the game.

In other words, let newcomers who don't know about the blocking feature die again and again in Deciat.

Except they're going to die 'again and again in Deciat' many times over while the auto-blocklist takes its time to populate anyway, because there are more than two gankers in this game.

Or they can die zero times by going to Deciat in solo mode, which is already a prevalent and obvious feature that stares them in the face every time they boot the game up.

This game already feels mostly dead and lifeless in Open; we don't need even more ways than we already have to not meet each other ever.

I don't know who's dying repeatedly, either. It only took one gank for me to switch over to solo to do the meta-alloy thing. (No lie, still salty about getting ganked 500 Ls away from completion, after hours of searching for ripe barnacles in a ship with a low FSD range) I finished the mission easy in solo, and now I can decide whether or not to go into open and selectively block gankers. Or, I might be salty still, install EDR, and supercruise in Deciat with a sidewinder to collect data for a few days.

A sidewinder in Deciat is obvious bait. Hardly anyone stays in the sidewinder all the way out to Maia.
Try an adder, one of the diamondbacks, cobra, or asp. To be more convincing, fit a planetary vehicle hangar so your loadout looks like something that could have been visiting barnacles.

I don't use block, no matter how tempting it was in the past. Having an automated block I couldn't agree with solely for the potential issues it would have on instancing for many other players.

But, it would be useful to not make open the first option on the menu but the last - and to emphasise that PvP should be expected to occur. Those of us who have been playing for a while should understand the benefits & drawbacks of the 3 modes and make an informed decision where we click when starting a session, which is all as it should be.

Give new players a nudge to cause them to think about their selection, then perhaps blocking will become less of an issue.

Any time someone comes here or *eddit, or the steam forums for this game to complain about gankers, it normally takes 3 posts or less b4 someone tells them about block.
I am all for having it automated as long as the player has to opt in. Though, I don't think this will ever gain traction with Fdev. Quality of life enhancements are just not really Fdev's thing very often.

We've got Open Group and Solo. Are you asking for a 'Safe' mode?
How is it a “Safe” mode if it requires the noob’s ship to be destroyed before functioning?

I think the automatic block is OTT, but the OP’s new suggestion of adding a “do you want to block the player who just killed you?” to the rebuy screen is much more like Old Duck’s “reverse iron-man” thing they used to go on about.

A somewhat-related proposal of mine from awhile back: Auto-block option against CMDR's with Notoriety

But I also like Old Duck's proposal, again using Notoriety as a way of identifying potential troublemakers the player might want to avoid instancing with.

But any anti-sealclubbing measure should protect the seals that haven't been clubbed yet, which the OP's proposal doesn't do. And if it's a temporary measure, you wouldn't have blocklists getting bigger and bigger.

I wrote him back. You can do a gank, kill people for fun, and not get Notoriety
Then as far as I know Notoriety is easy enough to reset.

P.S. Doesn't Notoriety grow for killing NPCs?

I'm pro block list, but I'm anti OP's suggestion.

What I would support is a setting that allowed players to avoid being instanced with other players of notoriety in high security systems, with the notoriety level being the determining factor as security level decreases. For example, no instancing with players of any notoriety in Hi-Sec, but in Low-Sec the notoriety has to be above 5 to avoid instancing with that player, and in anarchy anything goes. Again this would be an optional setting, so that PvP "good guys" can still hunt gankers, and if you get notoriety yourself, the "avoid bad players" option is turned off and grayed out until your notoriety decays to zero.
I like that this takes arbitrary control away from the player and puts it in the hands of in-context game C&P. I came up with basically the same idea, but additionally linked to your reputation with the controlling faction, to create a "safe on home/friendly ground" feel too, which might be cool. Controlling Deciat might be rather good for your PMF 😛. It still made me sweat that it'd break instancing, but not enough to not post it here with a bunch of other hammy suggestions:

While there are no penalties for playing in Solo or Private Groups this would be the way to go.

.... as soon as there are Open bonuses or Open only content I would expect more players will make use of the block feature in Open than the number that do already - as I don't expect that Frontier will remove or otherwise limit the block feature.
