an option to hide fleet carriers

As @gorankar said, you can filter them from the Nav Panel.

On the System Map, they should just make them collapsible so that when more than two are present around a single body, they appear as a single icon that you can expand to see the individual carriers. That would tidy up the nonsense of this:

There is a way, you can filter them out pretty easily in the nav pane.

He's talking about the System Map (the one displaying the stars, planets, moons, stations and all the bloody FLEET CARRIERS).
The NAV panel has no effect on that unfortunately.
X.

lol seems i had a brain thing :D didn't even notice the filter on the nav panel :D only thing left to solve is the galaxy map :D with the 20 million fleet carriers

yeah seems like every system is about the same, the mining location i went to has around 20 or so everywhere

With so many CMDRs selling tritium and other materials to Fleet Carriers it is interesting that quantity demanded for those same items has seemingly not increased at any of the stations/settlements.

FC is probably a worse expansion than Engineers - what a kerfuffle. Increase upkeep by 500% to clear the dross.

Fdev should have been educating themselves on the Dunning Kruger effect before giving in to the screaming crowd because in fact they knew better. Dunning Kruger seems to be a big one in software developement. Then again an option to hide this junk will probably do for a fix so it's not too bad. Just imagine they would have stuck to their high prices. How nice would that have turned out? Fleetcarriers as a rarity, a sight to see it would have been. Now it's just spam as the crowd got their way and everyone owns one now.
I still hope they make them destructible one day and lift the upkeep for it so we can have some nice balls of fire in a cleanup operation. Make it like a base in rust where the owner has to be online 24/7 to not get offline raided. That'd be fun.

You can filter them out in the Nav panel - activate all the filters except carriers one.
In the system map - well, nothing to do there

I do hope they do something to reduce these, a foldable list would be best, of a system map filter
I don't know how many are inactive, but maybe they should at least hide the ones where the owner is missing for more than a few days.

This is good. Also an option to filter out carriers that have a planned jump. Sure there are tonnes of carriers, but all I mostly want to know is if they're planning to
A: go somewhere
B: where to
C: when are the jumping

So many times, I check through a few (not all because...time), and noone is going anywhere. I do visit some, though, if they have a name I like...looking at you Rose Tyler.

I'm under the impression that FCs are "frozen in time" the way they currently are, flaws and all. :(

It would appear so, I think the option to hide the FC in the system map is an issue because they are implemented using the same code as stations, so that would require a reworking of the code that displays stations and all other assets, much more complicated than just hiding FC's. I don't think they appear on the Orrery though do they? That's another option, if only they made the controls easier to a more intuitive to use in the Orrery!

They do appear on the orrery, but only if you zoom in. I actually use the orrery to determine if I can safely allow SCA to fly me to a station (is it behind a planet?), which is nigh impossible when the station is buried in a pile of fleet carrier icons and names.
