Anaconda Troubles

I was thinking it might be that. I was firing the cannon at the entire hull rather than specific modules. Thanks. I used to sub target the power plant but then read that it doesn't take damage off the hull and as the hull always seems to go down faster (probably because I keep missing the module) I stopped subtargetting. I think I will start subtargetting again.

I swear by subtargetting. Get close, get above/below, use your thrusters to hold position and jackhammer the power plant. Vulture and FAS were made for this, cant comment on the FDL but I will whats what when I get one :D

Vulture and FAS are more maneuverable ( and drift less ) so its easier to keep them in the sweet spot. The FDL however has the potential of carrying a huge cannon - which is the single best implement in deactivating powerplants i have stumbled across so far. I will still switch it for a huge multi once this is available - but I am not sure I will stay with the Multi.

As everyone else has said - no surprises there then. Use this as a learning experience. I did the Robigp runs in a Python until I had over 1.1 billion in the bank - and then blew 760M or so on an A-rated general purpose Conda. I did a fair bit of pew-pew in the Python and eventually no single NPC stood a chance - and I didn't have to run from many wings either. In the Conda I've never had to run from any NPCs - single or winged. But I'd still run from a single PvP Vulture..... The great great thing about the Conda is that its tough - great shields and a tough hull (A7 and military) so you ALWAYS have time to high-wake out with shields left - if you don't get cocky and try and take on a good pilot flying a heavy-hitting fighter.

In PvP its not the class of the ship that makes the difference - its the class of the CMDR flying it. And like so much else in Elite there is no quick way of getting there - remember the "grind" of buying the Conda ? Well if you had done a similar grind but to become a good pilot it would be you in the Vulture - happily chewing up rookies in Anacondas....

I've flown my conda for a while now, and I take CMDR vultures as a serious threat.

If you can fly well, then you should be able to win. If you can fly Ok, then you should be able to escape death.

But anything less than an A-rated conda is risky business.

As I said, not flown an FDL yet so cant judge. I'm keeping my FAS come what may, its just so damn fun being able to throw it around and ram stuff - mine can take an NPC FDL thats lost its shields from 100% hull to 0% in one laser-spewing ram. Never fails to put a smile on my face. Also accidentally killed a pirate DBS I was tailing when I didnt notice it had stopped and plowed into it bwahahaha.

I hear the FDL is more of a shield tank. Im guessing SCBs instead of HRPs yes?

The Vulture can defeat a mostly stock Anaconda flown by someone who has never flown one before but it is far from the best fighter in the game.
