And I thought Elite was an empty sandbox!

So yesterday I picked up SW Battlefront. The tutorials were awesome. Then I tried the game. Couldn't even find a room to play in. Asked for and got a refund. Elite may have issues but when a AAA game from a huge developer gets away with delivering nothing it makes me think twice about complaining about ED. I haven't ever condsidered asking for my money back from Frontier.

So are you talking about the last version on SWBF? Not SWBF II. Cause that is what everyone is playing. The matches in II are definitely better then the first one.

Can we even really call it the first one? Considering it was out for the XBOX and PS before.

Well said TS. I also came from a game that made EDs problems seem tiny - it was a horrific money grubbing time wasting (yes, FAR worse than ED) nightmare. Elite seems in it for the right reasons.

I don't buy AAA games BECAUSE they are too much like what you describe. I bought elite because I thought it was going to be safe from all that crap, but it isn't. I am thankful that elite isn't as bad as some of those games, but it's kindof like being thankful that your pizza is just burnt to a crisp and doesn't also have turds on top of it.

..but...but.. they are not delivering nothing.

They are offering you to buy "pride and accomplishment" through lootcrates via real world money...

Its not that theres "nothing" in the game.. its just that EVERYTHING is hidden away into online casino style lootcrates - which the player has to buy separately in addition to the AAA-full price tag that they stuck on the game... those 60€-80€ is just an entrance fee to only allow players to actually JOIN the casino and play the tutorial. no one mentioned something about getting "content" or "fair play" in the base-package. :)

Not that IM defending EA, but I played a lot of the BF games over the years and as soon as a new one came out the old one pretty much died a death, I even brought the mess that was Medal of Honour just to get a beta key for BF3, was playing Bad Company 2 at the time.

The only game Ive asked for a refund for was Space Hulk Deathwing, as on relase it was a real mess and just wouldnt work, but they fixed it and I now own it. Ive not played MP FPS for a while but as said above SWBF2 is out wont be many playing SWBF1, not that I intend to buy another EA game what they did to Mass Effect has still left a bad taste in my mouth and then all the crap around loot boxs in SWBF2 I thought nah wont be spending anything on Orign for some time.

It really depends what you are looking for.

I am looking for immersive game world and that's what I get in game.

I never have seen ED as sandbox, it is more of influence box that way.

I'm astonished that someone actually is buying SWBF AFTER such massive backlash EA received with that title. Lootboxes, limiting / timegated heroes unlocking system, overall pay to play and bad PR "pride and accomplishment" . I thought Destiny 2 was the sole competitor for worst milking attempt but EA struggled hard.

Also - bit difficult to compare SWBF with ED, totally different genres. I'm not saying ED is perfect, decently good at best with massive spikes in awesomeness (visuals, sound, flight mechanic) and badness (RNG, low reward to effort ratio, misleading or even lack of proper information). But ED provides a vide variety of choices and everyone can find a piece of interesting things to do within. Also - it's rather niche title, aimed towards certain group of customers.

SWBF is a shooter and as such it has massive competition on the market, which ED truly lacks. For what real competition we have for ED? Star Citizen? It's still in alpha and it will stay that for quite some time. No Man Sky? We all know the state of NMS. There would be probably few more titles but not as complex as ED, leaning more toward arcade / shooter (since it's the easiest to create).

Anyway, it's good for ED that despite it drawbacks there are bigger titles that are worse so we can say that what we have in ED isn't that bad after all.

Every time I find spam mail advertising "prescription free veeah gra" or simliar crap in my mail inbox. Im asking myself as well: "Who the frak is actually buying this stuff?" - but someone apparently has to.. otherwise spammers would long since have settled on something else to spam for :) Must be the same logic at work designing game swith the sole purpose of robbing the players off their poketmoney.

I'm sure there's enough people who fell for EAs ploy. ( As a side remark: the only good thing that rose out of EAs limitless greed it is the public awareness among politicians around the globe who are now investigating wether these type of marketing schemes should be threated and sanctioned as "online gambling" :-D )

I don't feel the loot boxes are really required except to be competetive in MP. You do get a free box every day and free ones as you accomplish things. The 23 campaign missions have already made the game worth the 23 bucks I got it on sale for.
