Personally, I like them. I see Frontier have been tampering with them in game again. It bothers me more when I see them disappearing and re-appearing as they are doing now. I wish they would just give people the option to turn them off instead, and let the player take it from there themselves.
And still no option to remove the Excel spreadsheet in supercruise

I've read if you get your canopy blown out the lines go away, so there's your solution; no need to thank me 
I prefer them being there as they are guides to the system, take them away and you have just space and a blip to head for.
Unplayable....well obviously not as there is 1000's of us playing.
I hope over time, that many aspects of the UI become configurable (on the fly), brightness, hud colour schemes and positions, in-flight visual and audio queues etc.
I personally don't mind the lines or the movement indicators, but I would still advocate for configurable controls.

Agreed. Several worksheets available if possible, one tab for commidity pricing, one for saved routes, one for saved notes on upgrades/rares/general notes!
If not overlayable like that, then another console to look to, maybe '5' that we spin the chair 180' and look at the Spreadsheet console. Thanks to OP for bringing this vital issue up!
