Actually, that was exactly the same for me!
I have a fuel scoop on all my ships, which confused me even more (I found it in storage at the last station I docked at - I've no idea what I'd been thinking).Not too long ago I was heading to Colonia in my Corvette on the neutron highway. My FSD started failing so I dropped out of SC to repair it....yup no AFMUs with constantly failing FSD...I self destructed.

Travelled 50 odd thousand light years flying from one barren rock to another looking for biologicals before realising they showed up in the fss....my biggest facepalm moment ever.

Dropping unto a NHSS (Threat Level 10) because in VR and not paying too much attention thinking it said (Threat Level 0) and not even seeing what sent me to the rebuy screen...
When the new mining mechanics were introduced recently I had to go back to the station about three times because I kept forgetting various pieces of required kit. I was livid.
Pre 3.3 i went mining on a 2nd account to unlock Selene.
I outfitted my Cutter and flew to the system where I knew I could mine Painite.
Got there and realised I'd not been there on that account so had to fly to the next system to get a disco scanner.
Then fly back to scan the system, then back to replace the scanner with what ever I'd taken out and finally back to the system to mine.

I made a complete trip around orion nebula, barnard's loop, horse head nebula and the complete Orion's constellation... Without DSS (before 3.3) so all my scan values were crappy! I got almost no rank progression and a couple of million credits for 3 weeks of exploration!

That's what I tell myself anyway. Another quality moment I had was when I returned from my first proper exploration trip (to Sag A* and back - I made it there in April the year after E: D was released). I spent two hours selling data (one system at a time), then got bored. Spent some money on upgrading my AspX, launched, and boosted out of the station.... Only I never made it through the wall. It took a long time to see the rebuy screen (while the server deleted all my exploration data!).

You obviously don't have the same relationship with the station gunners I have... rebuys at 14million add up you know [yesnod]
(plus I have an insane desire to play Thargoid hunting in my T10 - the number of rebuys will be epic!)
