And Yet Again, I sell something to a bartender and it vanishes.

This time I sold 8 smear campaign plans to a bartender, this was supposed to give me access to Yarden Bond. And what did I get for my months worth of grind. NOTHING. No that's not true I have a bleeding ulcer from the aggravation. I closed out of the game, went back in, still nothing. Put in a ticket yet again. I find I am playing this game less and less because of this garbage.

Did you relog after selling them? the game needs to re-initialise, so either restart, or jump to a different system. I always got the invitations once I got in my ship and reloaded the game.

lol... after playing it so long it's easy to forget what is acceptable and not, honestly I feel like Elite is an abusive relationship at times! When you start to play other games though you realise the kinda stuff that we shouldn't put up with. Cosmetic polishing is one thing but broken core mechanics are not really on. The gaming industry as a whole needs to learn that and we need to stop accepting it! The little blighters will only try and push it even more!

I guess at this point it is impossible for them to fix some bugs - especially not in a short timeframe.
Remeber the vanishing commodities bug Operation Ida reported dozens of times and it took years to fix.
Or all the recurring bugs already patched and reappearing after a new update. I don't think they want to push us,
they simply can't fix it (in time). Which is a shame because it's still an amazing game.

Bugs like that shouldn't take years to fix at this point. It's either a lack of resources or incompetence. Seeing as I actually love Fdev and love this game and am very thankful for it.. I really hope it's the former and not the latter. Elite has withered on the vine.

It certainly hasn't been in a 'good place' since 3.3 arrived (and the year of bug fixing that wasn't), which has only been exasperated by EDO launching as a total dog's dinner (but, fortunately, still playable for me) which has had some improvements but is still very annoyingly bugged, fixed, then repeating some of the 'fixed' bugs.

Yesterday I took a couple of handfuls of 'simple' missions, 2 megaship ones where there was no megaship (I thought they'd fixed that, but may have imagined it) and a delivery one where the recipient was a Security bod who just scanned me and wouldn't highlight to talk to. (I repeated that 3 times, just in case, same result each time)

Bleating aside, the game is still very playable for me, provides the entertainment I want (with added exasperation at times!) and promises to improve in the future... The wait has been a long one already, I do hope that U9 & 10 gets EDO where it should be.

Yes, this is a consistent bug for me. But to your point, should the order even matter. This is an idiotic game requirement and be removed. All the bartenders I ever met couldn't even pour a scotch neat adequately.
Could you take a screenshot of the Engineers tab which shows the Smear Campaign requirement? Curious to see if it's greyed out despite being active. Also, I got some SCs left if you want to give it another try.

I was able to grind out 8 more smear campaigns, this time I got an invite from YB.
But I think I know why it happened. I gave Kit Fowler his surveillance devices and then sold the eight smear campaigns all in the same session without logging out.
Had I logged out between each event I would wager that it would have logged it.

Given the title of this thread I was expecting the subject matter to be somthing more along the lines of René Descartes walks into a bar, see. He orders a glass of wine and drinks it. The bartender says, ‘Would you like another?’ Descartes replies, ‘I think not.’ And he disappears.

Unfortunately, we are all still playing Elite: Relog simulator.

I had a similar problem with Terra Velasquez a couple of months ago
I have unlocked Kit Fowler and Yarden Bond about three days ago: being aware that selling stuff to bartenders does not do anything immediately I just carried on with my activities.
In both cases, upon jumping to another system, I received the invitation letters.
What baffles me is how the outcome can be so different for different people/computers.

Yes, I've just made it a habit of relogging after certain events (like visiting engineers, paying off bounties, unlocking stuff, etc.). It really is too much to ask of FDev to change this kind of behaviour after so many years and have the game log events in real-time.

So finally you admit you sold the Smear Campaigns before you were asked to in the game - as the first replies asked and you denied. Hopefully you will learn from this ... but I bet not :)
