I actually just learned that walrus are limited in captivity with only 11 in captivity in the USA and some in Russia. Walrus are certainly a highly requested animal in PZ.
Pairi Daiza also has them and a baby was born in the zoo two weeks agoI actually just learned that walrus are limited in captivity with only 11 in captivity in the USA and some in Russia. Walrus are certainly a highly requested animal in PZ.
There are also some in european zoos, like in portugal and hagenbeck in germany. Also in Paradaiza in belgiumI actually just learned that walrus are limited in captivity with only 11 in captivity in the USA and some in Russia. Walrus are certainly a highly requested animal in PZ.
uhm... good questionAre there any other very difficult animals that we have in game that zoos struggle to care for in real life?
ok for this one i dont know for other countries, but here almost every zoo have proboscis monkey and it breeds, alot. here Proboscis monkey is common in zoos (might be because its native here) so i think it really depends on the environment (although Singapore is in the tropic)I read on a post that the proboscis monkeys do live at Singapore zoo successfully but other zoos struggle due to their dietary needs.
Are there any in particular you hope will join the game?
Leopard seals are awesome, thanks for that info. I figured they must have been there for a while, as I remember seeing them "advertised" on the official zoo website a long time ago (I planned on visiting a few years back but things didn't pan out - would love to try again when Covid settles down in Aus). The main animal that is extremely rare in zoos I'd love to see in the game is the aforementioned Leopard Seal; they're one of my absolute favourite animals and their history at Taronga Zoo at least gives them some precedent. Fun fact, Taronga has actually cared for several different rescued Leopard Seals over the years, so while none are kept by the zoo currently it wasn't even a one time thing.

Narwhal are probably my favourite cetaceans. I'm fervently against keeping cetaceans in captivity (until we figure out how to do it right), but back when I was younger and less conscientious about these things I used them in basically all my Zoo Tycoon zoos, including the original Zoo Tycoon Marine Mania. So today I learned that narwhals are not kept in captivity. It never occured to me while playing tons of ZT2, how strange! Then again, that game had alot of animals that are not kept in captivity.
I am fairly certain we wont se them in PZ, but at least I learned something new.
I always mixed them with belugas in my arctic sectionsNarwhal are probably my favourite cetaceans.
