Animals you didn’t think you’d use as much?

Dhole, Sun Bear, Babirusa, Binturong - I honestly was a bit underwhelmed with the SEA pack because only one of "my" wanted animals made it in (the clouded leopard) but these I've used these other four animals quite a bit since release and am glad they were included.

Biggest one though is the Giant Anteater. That wasn't even on my radar but it's actually my favorite from the pack and the South American animal I use the most - since my Jaguars are all escape artists even when they're no escape points per the heat map. Giant Anteaters are just so neat looking.

Base game probably the Mandrill. Most animals I've liked a lot from the start and use them, or don't like them as much and don't use them as much. Mandrill is one of the handful of exceptions to that.

Dwarf caiman. It's gorgeous, and so so useful.

Reptile house? Caiman
South america zone? Caiman
Aquatic zone? Caiman
Tropical dome? Caiman
Crocodile park? Caiman
Space between 2 habitats? Caiman
Hotel? Caiman

I seriously built a hotel at one of my zoos and put Caiman habitat in the entrance lounge.

I really knew nothing about Aardvarks and Pangolins before Planet Zoo, and now I love them in virtually every zoo I build. I find them so easy to keep (just gotta have one-way glass).

Dall sheep, absolutely. They’re the only species in the game I wasn’t at all familiar with prior to playing, and they’ve come to be one of my top favorites. They’re so much fun to watch, and they allow for habitat builds that no other animal does.

I suppose the grizzly also counts. I’ve always been relatively “whatever” towards your black and brown bears, but being able to build habitats with local trees and swimming creeks does it for me like nothing else. They’re definitely going to end up sharing that crown once the new DLC drops, though.

Also: capuchins. They’re the sole representative of such a common zoo niche, which means they get used EVERYWHERE.

And I guess the ugly otters, because at the end of the day they’re still otters.

Reindeer and capuchins. I use one or both in almost every zoo. If we had other deer or arboreal monkeys I don't think I'd use them so much, but as is...

Himalayan brown bear. Since I always build in Europe, I don't like to use the grizzly, and of course we don't have the Eurasian brown bear. However, European zoos are some of the few that actually keep Himalayan brown bears, so even though I thought I'd never use it, I ended up using it quite often.

On the exact opposite end of the spectrum, I badly wanted the clouded leopard, but it's so buggy that I never use it.
