Animals you haven't used yet?

I had polar bears just once. Never again. You know why 😅

I actually forgot tapirs were in the game until someone recommended putting them into a mixed habitat with anteaters, which sparked my imagination.

I haven't used bengal tigers since the beta. No idea why. Think it's a subconscious thing - they do all look pretty similar and I'm after that attachment to the animals in my zoos, over numbers.

What makes it into each and every one of my zoos:

  • Cassowaries (gimme that Shoebill DLC, c'mon Frontier)
  • Alligators
  • Cheetahs
  • The tortoises (because I like having them walk through that wall piece with the round hole in the centre, which I lower into the ground a bit).
  • Pygmy hippos (the A rank animal of cuteness and habitat building enjoyment)

What I haven't used yet
Bonobo (always choose the other one, sadly they cannot be in the same enclosure, I'd even like to put them with orangutans)

To my knowledge you can use both bonobos and chimps in the same enclosure (along with orangutans and gorillas). Right now I have Orangutans and Bonobos in the same habitat and they get along just fine, and I have used Chimps and Bonobos in the same habitat before without any problems :)

I put bonobos and western chimp together and they had 0 % in social tab instantly (and it wasn't because of habitat size). I may try it again though.

I used yesterday the bonobos for the first time ever. I put them in a habitat with my nialas. I think that I've used all animals now (so please give me some new ones Frontier! 😁 ).

I have used all of them, even the polar bears :D yes they need a lot of space, but i realy dont understand the problem some people have?? With a little creativity you can make a cool habitat for them, and without issues with guests :)

Mostly that it looks unrealistic (and as I noticed quite alot of people around here try to build realisticly) and also that it is not consistent with other animals habitat size requirments. Of course, we could use it if we really wanted to have the polar bears, the thing is is that option attractive enough for all the trouble with creating the habitat? I guess we can see in this thread that it is not.

And I love the polar bears! But...I dont agree it is easy to create good looking AND realistic habitat for them, so I used them once in a park that is more like nature reservation...in more typical zoo...it just does not work, unfortunately.

I tend to build very specific zoos like a cold climate zoo in Sweden, a zoo in Australia etc with a clear vision of what would or wouldn't be appropriate species-wise. Only in my Japanese zoo do I feel I can add pretty much anything. Still there are quite a few species I still haven’t used:

  • African elephant
  • Aldabra giant tortoise (sorry but I still don’t get how this made it to the base game)
  • Black wildebeest
  • Bonobo
  • Chinese pangolin
  • Common warthog
  • Dingo
  • Gemsbok
  • Gharial
  • Himalayan brown bear (again such an odd choice for the base game)
  • Okapi (although I love them and definitely have plans for them)
  • Sable antelope
  • Springbok
  • Thomson’s gazelle
  • Western chimpanzee

I have not used some of the African animals. I am using this time to do so. I am tired of speculations about new dlcs and use this time to have some fun rebuilding, tidying up and building habitats animals I that I have not used. Nyala, so pretty and I am pleased with the enclosure. I do play with the polar bears but have to turn off animal welfare because they require too much space. It is the only time I turn off animal welfare.

I'm such a perfectionist that it slows down my zoo building. I need to watch documentaries, look through Pinterest, make a bunch of new blueprints and map out my area in game before I even start building. I've never gotten past Africa yet - I keep restarting my zoo and I always start with the African section, since it's largest. I've only ever had:

  • Lions
  • Zebra
  • Giraffe
  • Ostrich
  • Wild dogs
  • Gazelle + Springbok
  • Sable Antelope
  • Wildebeest

But it makes me so excited to know how many more animals, items and foliage pieces I have in game to play with! I will always crave more DLC, but I'm very happily working through the game slowly and there are so many new things for me to get to in my own gameplay.

Most times starting a new zoo - it was the reptiles or South America. Most times I end up with the African section later on. (lions/elephant/giraffes only when I have enough funds to make a really nice habitat)
I play Franchise so spending huge amounts in the beginning is not a smart idea :D

Oof yeah, I forgot to say I only play Sandbox or Challenge modes (Franchise is too laggy for me, thanks NBN). African animals are expensive!
