Another C&P Rant

OP, you should bug report it, in case FD is NOT aware of outlier circumstances like this, where a system issuing a fine doesn't have a CONTACTS available at the local base. If the response from QA is "working as intended" (which I doubt) then create a whine thread.

Don't blow yourself up to clear it.

Fines send you to detention just like bounties do. Seems silly, but after much research in another thread, its intended design.

You need to pay it off.

It's pretty silly that some places don't have contacts. What's the point?

Speaking of self-destruct, if my ship explodes out here while I have a fine (not a bounty), will I respawn here in the nebula, or will I get an express ticket to a corrections facility back in the Bubble?
Try it.

I really hope you get transported back to a correctional facility. Maybe you'll learn to whine less there.

Can I get a link to this thread?

Two lessons learned:

1) C&P is broken (see OP for the RL Hawaii to California comparison)
2) Trolls gonna troll

1) is it? You got a fine, unpayable in a number of jurisdictions because: they don't align or recognize or give a damn but want to kill you just because you wink wrong.
2) always.

No, just quarter million folks here.

Cops still have ticket quotas. There are at least two cities in Missouri that were disincorperated for being speed traps. They were bankrupted, and the cops were never able to find work again. Video recording got them both.

If I'm given a parking ticket, then the town that issued the ticket is going to be able to receive payment for the fine. Now let's imagine this town is in Hawaii. It would be ludicrous to go into the town office and find a sign saying, "To pay your parking fines, please visit the Los Angeles Police Department.

I earned a 50 credit fine for shooting a rock in my SRV just inside the NFZ of an outpost in the Lagoon Nebula (I missed the hard-to-read warning text). This is what I now see:

I had hoped to make this my base of operations for awhile, but now I'm locked out of the services I need. Luckily in this specific case, there is also an asteroid base in this nebula, but what if there wasn't? The nearest IF station is well over 4000 LY away! And I really wanted to operate from this outpost, not the asteroid base...

This is utter rubbish and completely illogical. Any outpost that issues a fine needs to be able to accept payment for that fine.

Frontier, might you consider clearing this fine for Jenny_Diver on PS4? You can even take the 50 credits out of her account! I promise not to shoot any more rocks inside the NFZ..

Give support on that screenshot. The link is on the launcher.

What?

If I'm in a small town, which this planetary outpost is, the local sheriff department will likely both issue the fine and collect the fine. That little town WANTS the money, thus why the traffic warden is handing out tickets for running over a decorative rock. They are not going to say, "Sorry, you'll need to travel to the major city 400 miles away and pay there."

To make matters worse, I have to wear a disguise in this town now, and because of this I can't buy groceries or sell my goods at the pawn shop. This system is absolutely stupid in the most common of sense way, and worse it's TERRIBLE game design! It may not be a "big deal" in the Bubble, but for an explorer thousands of LY away, it's ridiculously punitive.

Am I reading your screen right, you cannot access the market or cartography, but you can access missions?
I think this system needs more convoluted rules.
Design process seems to be: If the ruleset doesn't require the client to use visio flow-charting to understand, add more rules.

That is weird OP!

Just something to note. On your screenshot the station controlling faction is in reteat.

First of all, I wonder if this is what is effecting the Contacts tab? UA bombing is the other thing that came to mind, although that is some serious intent at 4300LY!

The thing about Retreat is, I am hoping it means the faction is in another system, and hopefully there is a station where the faction is not the station controller (assuming the retreat is causing the loss of the contacts option), where you will be able to pay the fine.

Did you open a ticket with support?

Simon
