Another disappointment

thousands of players log in for a joint effort. old players dust off their battleships. new blood joining the war effort en masse. vigour renewed, guns blazing, glory and death!

No one needs to mistake those thousands of players for a majority of players to be enthusiastic about ongoing events. No majority is required to justify the content, or for that content to be indisputably popular.

When odyssey came out, how many cmdrs were there then?
When it became apparent it wasn't all it was cracked up to be how many continued to play?
Those figures only known to fdev, are definitely relevant, and in comparison to the ax statistics discussed in this thread, put the whole potential playerbase figures into context.
Don't think for a minute the ax goid war was a success.
Because & this is a guess, we're talking 100s of thousands if not millions, logged In When oddity dropped.
That statistic known only to fdev, is telling.

I've seen a lot of people talking about the base building recently, but honestly, considering how Frontier do the things with the game, if that feature were released I expect it to be: "10 hours of grinding for building a tiny shed and 100 hours for making a small house".

I'm one of those long inactive players who'll log in today just to see what happens. I have zero interest in the Thargoids, none. I do however have an interest in one-off groundbreaking events though, since they're a rarity in this game these days, so would like to witness the surprise that frontier have cooked up, the one where you all think the war is won but today's event turns out to be the destruction of the bubble and the beginning of a far more interesting timeline for Elite with humanity finally scattered to the depths.

Not going to happen is it.

But what the heck, I'll log in for an hour just incase, then wonder why I bothered when it turns out to be another false dawn / damp squib of an event frontier's budget allowed for. ;)
I bet you're popular at parties.

Hmmm... the mouseover on the Inara traffic report isn't quite clear. It says "based on the Inara commanders [...] it may not reflect the actual traffic". I know Inara tries to guesstimate with CG targets and such. Maybe @Artie can clear this up?
It's partially correct and partially false - the traffic report on Inara takes the "hard" numbers of unique commanders passing through the respective star system (regardless their number of visits) as reported to Inara and it's then multipled by "magic" numbers to have the estimation closer to the reality (in other words, trying to guess how the traffic would look if all commanders were reporting their data to Inara). As any estimation - it's not accurate, but it should be somewhat close usually (but unusual exceptions where the number is significantly higher or lower than reality may happen).

Nice fireworks show, but no gnosis-style bait and switch unfortunately, which would have been at least something content-wise and go down in history like gnosis event did. As cool as it looked I think todays event won't live long in the memory as it was really just a show, but I do hope that cloud becomes a permanent feature and doesn't get deleted. It'd make a good tourist POI for players in the future to visit.

The announcement said that the remains will become explorable at some point, so there is more content to it than just the visuals.

To be clear I’m not advocating Fdev abandon thargoid content or that players who are into it don’t matter. I’m just asking that Fdev not put 95%+ of all their efforts into one thing. Especially when there are a lot of major bugs that have been present since Odyssey launch.

Obviously FD have put effort into this, not only the last month.. This is something they've been working on since a year or two!

We already know that they are moving onto other parts of the game, like for instance PP 2.0. Who knows what else they are working on..

Regarding player numbers, isn't that mainly a concern for FD? IMO, what we as players should be concerned with is the gameplay good, do I enjoy this game..

Wasn't hard to predict though was it?

You thoroughly enjoyed the light show though, (I assume), and that's all that matters. (y)
Only watched it on Twitch streams, was too busy doing other stuff in game. Haven't had time to do much if any Thargoid content as I'm having too much fun teaming up doing missions etc with my squadron.
