We'll still continue to release updates and bug fixes. Unsure why people are thinking future updates won't be free.
Yes, we have DLC and other content on the way that may/will cost a small premium to have in your game. However, i wouldn't say our updates are moving to some sort of subscription "subscribe to play" model... that's simply incorrect.[sad]
This quote from Brett came from another thread, and I started a new thread because this is a different topic.
The reason people are concerned is that the "small/microtransaction" DLCs are just not exciting. Sure some people enjoy the small construction sets, but even some of the more popular youtube channels (like Channel5 and TeamSchematics) complained about the way frontier sold their first DLC pack. I think a lot of people are hoping for a bigger DLC soon, so its surprising you only said that "small premiums" are planned, and I think that's why people are comparing it to a subscription. The problem is that, if somebody uploads a blueprint using DLC, it will be limited to how many people will actually be able to download that blueprint. Obviously, this been discussed throughout the entire gaming community for years, just surprised you did not say anything about larger DLCs.
If I compare the $9 DLCs to the $45 price of the full game, I think to myself "would I buy 4-5 sets of $9 DLC?" No, not at the size that these first ones are. That's why some people are a bit worried. Might have been different if all 3 construction packs were bundled together for like $8 or even $6. And I'm not trying to sound like a cheapskate, I have a VIP single ticket which was pretty expensive and the VIP staff/group pass was way too high.
Or maybe we'll get a full expansion soon? [yesnod]
