Newcomer / Intro Another n00b question

Something new and handy learned today, FAOff for high G descent. I’ll have to give that a try. Up until now I switched to alternate controls which made things easier than the normal controls - and I have to admit, I’m not entirely sure why!

If FA OFF/ON blipping becomes tiresome, you can try staying in FA ON, having the ship level and only tilting (pitch or roll) it a bit and levelling again.

For a fully controlled descent, assign an axis to vertical thrusters. Then you can descend at a constant velocity (say 4 km/s) regardless of the local gravitational conditions.
That's kind of fast isn't it? I usually map the planet, lock on my destination (geysers or biology), start my approach from over the horizon, pop in to power glide keeping my altitude in the blue and when I get within 15 kilometers of my destination I raise up, pop out of power glide (what ever it's called) and I hope to be 3-5 kilometers above and 5-7 away from my target. That's what I always try for, maybe I'm doing it wrong?
