Another solution to ganker problem

Maybe they cannot hurt Morbad, the player, or me, the player, but there is a sizeable probability they will hurt Joe Newbie, the player, and this is what they are after - their so-called salt. This is why they hunt down Joe Newbie, but not Morbad. Almost EVERY ganker stream I have surveyed shows them thriving on the possibility that Joe Newbie, the player, not Joe Newbie, the CMDR, will get salty.
I've seen gankers get salty over failing to gank me. These things happen. Doesn't mean the game needs to be changed.

If it's blatantly OOC harassment, that is against the rules and they can be reported for it.

Yeah, I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you.
Only if you are in company of another I expect.

Another question; if there are multiple gankers in a system, why are they not PvPing amongst themselves more of the time? After all that is a way to improve skills, learn how to build better boats and have a more challenging experience. Answer; they just want the fun of easy kills and to not lose. No interest in anything like a fair fight or experience.

They do attack each other.

I've said it before, I too believe the ship for changing the status quo vis-a-vis ganking has sailed. It is still the right thing to call out crappy behaviour as such.

The ganked player doesn't know what is behind his being ganked. He is just being blown up in seconds by a wing of four FDLs without any comms. The gankers celebrate themselves on their streams or their buddie's, which the gankee will not see. And I am not making that up, I have seen it on Twitch. It really is disgusting.

Then they can choose how they perceive it, as an attack on their real-world self, which doesn't give them any real recouse at all, or as a legitimate in-game event they can learn from.

How does what cannot be seen harm the illusion of what can?

A newbie player doesn't necessarily have to cool to shrug it off. He just gets salty, frustrated, maybe turns off the game, or disappears in Solo. Maybe they even decide to vent their frustration by coming here and posting about it (a grave mistake) and then even get mocked about it with git guds and the like.

And just because the gankee doesn't perceive what is happening behind the scenes (STREAMED ON THE INTERNET!) doesn't mean those who can perceive it shouldn't call it out just because it didn't or wouldn't happen to them. Call me a white knight, but I try to be nice to everyone, in game and in real life. The gankers aren't being nice, unless you smile and agree to play their game. If you don't, you get mocked. That isn't right.

I think FDev addressed this when they added the permit locked newbie systems. That was when the sealclubbers moved from LHS 3447 to Deciat.

If a new player doesn't follow some 'helpful' how-to guide and discovers the game & engineers for themselves they are unlikely to go find a meta alloy & go to Deciat first. But many do, and they fall into that trap. It can be a hard lesson to learn.

ETA for clarity

And from what I heard they still found ways to club seals in the newbie zone (resets and alts). To me, that's as low as it gets. Just because something can be done doesn't mean it ahould.

A certain willingness to give others the benefit of the doubt, and some degree of resilience against the animosity of others, is needed to persevere in any social setting, including multiplayer video games. And not every game, or mode, is for everyone. There is only so much that can be done to cater to people, and this game already bends over backwards to accommodate the conflict adverse.

By all means, if you feel something is an injustice, call it out when you see it. Don't expect everyone to share your level of concern though.

I know a player who does that. Can't mention his name here because of forum policy, because no doubt some of the folks here would consider that guy a ganker, too. He interdicts and scans random players for bounties, and if he finds one, he destroys the ship to get the voucher. The problem of course is that a bounty doesn't necessarily mean the interdicted player was a ganker, so he often hears the same angry accusations of "ruining someone else's game," although his actions are entirely lawful.
Bounty hunter is valid occupation and bounty is bounty. I don't have anything against that.

There is no use arguing about behaviour - it changes nothing. The only thing that helps is developers caring to make proper rules for the audience they market to. A FFA game just doesnt work for any audience - it works for specific ones.

one of my favourite vids was @Morbad accidentally getting a 400cr bounty at a CG, then everyone else seeing A WANTED PLAYER and attacking him because they're assuming he's a FILTHY EVIL GANKER and then hurling abuse at him in chat for daring to defend himself

The proposal would be hilarious. 95% of the destroyed ship cost would set them back 1.2 billion credits for destroying my cargo ship. Watch them lose access to outfitting due to anonymous penalties on bounties or fines - they would be stuck relying on PC carriers that have upkeep costs - and IF the fine was applied even in Anarchy systems - Boy, that would suck hard.

The applied fine could be toggled by the "report crimes against me" to separate consensual and non-consensual PVP.
