General / Off-Topic Another van attack

Details are still unclear.

2 killed, others injured when a white van crashed into a crowd of Muslim worshippers outside a mosque in North London.
This is the same mosque where Abu Hamza used to preach.

Seems the assailant was apprehended after. Some reports suggest he tried to stab people.

Edit:
Teresa May just released a short statement.

I can't find any source confirming fatalities, though the situation is still confused.

Edit: Latest reports (5.20 a.m. BST) now say one killed, eight injured.

Yes, getting the same story now.

Looks like a specific targeting of people in Muslim clothing.

I can't recall the UK being in the news quite so much as this last few weeks.

An eyewitness account from Abdul Rahman, who held the assailant down, says he was very strong, probably a "builder" ( bodybuilder?) and was only subdued with the assistance of several bystanders.

The assailant was shouting and agitated, declared that he wanted to "kill Muslims".
BBC says he was 48. That suggests his identity is already established.

I wonder if the police will be invading his house and conducting additional arrests.

The poor fellows in the cordon line look knackered. Hope they get some relief soon.

I condemn this very strongly, it's not ok, not in any way or form. I'm just afraid we haven't see anything yet. The storm is coming and we need to be aware of that.

"Fake" again. When will they learn that we can see it clearly? Real people are being hurt and killed.

All to stir up trouble between groups. Most likely to trigger stock market movements.

Your tinfoil hat is wedged on too tight.

The sooner we start to treat this crap like the weather and get on with things the sooner it'll go away.

We're getting some additional reaction from Corbyn, and Sadiq Khan. It's in Corbyn's own constituency.
Just the usual expressions of concern for the victims etc.

Looks like your standard right wing terrorism, on this occasion.

Please stay on topic and cut out the sniping. This is an awful event, as so many have been in recent weeks in the UK, and people affected need sympathy rather than another internet forum bickering with each other about it.

Why not post a reference to support the position you cited previously? I cannot find any sources that have that suggestion. It would be rather surprising to see any actual investigative info for a couple days, in any case.

Edit:
The Muslim Council of Britain is blaming Islamophobia.
( However they are hardly an investigative body, so there's no actual substantive evidence for it.)

BBC reports that the arrested man is white, which is hardly unusual in the UK.

According to the BBC news site he was heard to shout "kill all Muslims" during the attack, so I'd say there's a good chance Islamophobia played a part (assuming the report is accurate).

Such a terrible event though, my heart goes out to the people of London, as if they hadn't suffered enough in the last few days and months!

Certainly an unbalanced man who must be placed in a rest home and not pursued by the justice because he is probably not responsible for his acts

This is purely my opinion, but, if somebody commits a crime, they are responsible for it regardless of mental state or impairment and should face justice accordingly. Afterall it's the act that counts, not their intentions at the time.

Too often people are getting away with crimes on the grounds of "diminished responsibility".

I wouldn't consider being sectioned "getting away with it".

If he is not responsible for his actions, you can not judge him. Just to intern him in a hospital.
