Another VESA Monitor to Command chair project =)

Disclamer; English is not my native language.

I got inspired by a youtube video to attach my X-52 HOTAS to my chair / Oculus Rift. So I ordered 2 VESA mounts

And some industial strenght velcro:

Everything arrived, but the fasteners for the vesa mount were too big for my chair (Cheap IKEA office char. Sturdy armrests on it), so I had to construct something to make the armrest fatter. I figured I could use wood.
Since the armrest come down at an angle and not 90 degrees, I used some slanted wood peices to help with that. Notice that once side of the wood peices are fatter then the other. Same on the other side, but upside down.

By now, I was ready do use the velcro to just attach the joysticks to them, but I thought of a better idea since I did not want velcro below my HOTAS incase I changed my mind. So I sawed out some wood peices the same size as the bottom of the joysticks and screwed them in place.

The idea being that the X-52 has two through holes so you can put a screw or something straight through it attach it to .. stuff.

However, I was still not happy with the angle. Slanting a bit too far.

So I started looking at the construction of the VESA mounts. What prevented me from giving it and angle of, say 100 degrees? This piece of plastic I am pointing at with a screw is what its hitting at 90..

I stole my wifes kitchen burner which we use to make Creme Brulee, heated the plastic up and slamming it back past 90 degrees. After heating it 2-3 times, I felt that it could go no further. On the next picture you can see the result. Also, there is a cover for the visable screw in that picture which I could not put back. No biggie as its not seen when angled.

After this, I got a perfect 90 degree angle on it =) You can see it goes past 90 degrees. I had the camera at an angle on the last shot. Its actually flat.

Now I just got some long screwes and secured the joysticks to the wood.

Perfect angle for my arm. It might look like the joystick should come down more, but I like it this way. The armrest would be in the way on full forward on the joystick if it was lower.

All done =)

Whats left? Some nicer cable management and I might paint the wooden peices. Figured I would try it a few days first and see if it needs any alterations.

Seriously, i just mounted one of those things to my chair and its crazy. I feel like a little boy in a arcade hall. Just bought another one for more fun.

One of those vibration thingies? I've been looking into that as well, but they cost like $200, at least the ones I found. Yeah, I want one =)

I got one 50w 4ohm for €40,- and a mini amp for 25.- from Amazon. Bought another for the lulz and probably two more in the future for the ultra lulz. Seriously, its amazing when you feel the ship vibrating or explosions nearby.

I'll have to look into that =)

In the meantime, I've upgraded my chair a little bit. The VESA mounts are sturdy enough to attach a mouse as well, so I replaced the right wood peice.

Temporary mouse-mat. Censored my niece on my shoulders with the mouse =)

And would you look at that. I stuck a tiny bit of velcro on the top of the joystick so it does not slide off. Easy to lift off when I need to get up.

I raised the joysticks up a bit. Partly because it felt awkward on full UP on the joystick and the contacts for the joystick was banging into my desk. Now they clear it.

This feels better. I'll try it for a few days before painting and doing some better cable management. Going to put a USB somewhere to reduce the cables from 3 to 1 (Joy/Keyb/Mouse).

@Phil2003

Once the transducer is calibrated to filter out the high frequencies my favorite part is pulling up the landing gear on launch and feeling the gear pull up into the ship.

Is there a certain way to do that? Mine is connected to the "super bass" output from the amp, so i guess its already filtered. But i have no clue, always been more into visuals then acoustics.

Been looking for a ButtKicker Gamer 2, but seems impossible to get hold of for a reasonable price in Europe. Asked some ebay seller if they would consider sending it here..
