Answers from the devs #2

So "walking around" will not be the announcement and Thargoids have also been described as a long way off...doesn't leave much wiggleroom for what this thing "you have been working hard on for a long time" could be then, does it? ;):D

If that's a way FD drops a hints, then yeah, this is getting a bit obvious :D

edit: so for now either it's really nice update to core gameplay (awesome) or it's planetary landings, volume 1 (double awesome). Everything else is ruled out at this point. Except for things not mentioned, but nah :D

Win or win for me. :) If i had to bet, i'm 80% sure Gamescom announcement will be about planetary landings.

I understand that some people want "walking around" part of expansion, but that is lower on my wishlist.

Thanks for the answers. I have a few questions based on commodity trading.

I am routinely interdicted in ships that do not masslock or have enough weapons to threaten my Anaconda. Do you have any plans to make interdictions less of a chore and more of a threat?

Currently trade goods max profit cap seems to be entirely based on the price of the good. Will other factors ever come into play, such as the security level of the system? Will future versions of elite incentivise more risk-taking in trading?

Trade commodities' total value is often extremely low compared to the total cost of the ship. This heavily limits the risk inherent in trading, while restricting the possible profitability of mining and piracy. Will we see more expensive goods such as painite being introduced for trade commodities?

Thanks

Maybe planet landing? But to me it doesn't make too much sense introducing planet landing without option to go out of you ship and walk around that planet... That's why I was always under impression that planet landing will get AFTER first person mode (aka walking around ships and stations).

Same I was thinking...

Q3: Are you looking into expanding the variety of stations and/or giving the stations a more unique look according to the faction they belong to? (eg. rundown stations for pirates or poor factions)

I'm fairly certain that FD have always said that planetary landings and walking around will be two separate paid expansions, so one is not dependant on the other.

I think there are a lot of planets where walking is impossible/unnecessary like gas giants and rocky/icy planets without atmosphere.
A couple of uses for just flying around could be exploration of natural resources/natural occuring landmarks or phenomena. Also dogfighting in atmo. Maybe searching for someone hiding out on a planet. Also directly trading with outposts and cities.

There's a lot they could do with just flying around on planets, without having to get out of your ship.

Hi Zac,

Thanks for this :)

In relation to " Profit from Selling trade goods will increase your Trade Rank." I have not had my trade rank increased for all the goods that I have smuggled and sold for profit (well over 125 million credits in profit, not including the ones that have failed to record, that I can see recorded is missing from my trade rank) . Please can you add it to mine and to anyone else who is missing it.

Trading in prohibited goods needs some love.

Thanks

Commander Ben Ryder

Q: Do you have any news as to when some (or all) of the half-dozen networking bug fixes & improvements mentioned last week be hopefully arriving?

When will we be able to walk on our ships?

We have nothing to announce on this one, now or at Gamescom. Walking around on ships is in our plans, for sure, but it’s a very long way off.

After the Planetary Landing Expansion right? I think that'll be announced at Gamescom.

I think everyone here would love to see a battle around a large station. Is that not in the game for technical reasons (eg the AI keeps on crashing into the station) or artistic/gameplay reasons?

(From Michael Brookes) This is something we’re looking into changing – more details in the near future – or soon J

Yes Please add this. Combat is more fun among structures.

Useful information, Thanks Zac.

1) please could you guys publish a rough roadmap for when you are expecting key features to land.

2) please could Frontier start to work with the community as part of your development process, you have a very passionate community that would love to help you realise our collective dreams.

3) please could you reinstate the video development blogs - these were amazing last year.

4) please could you replace the clichéd and very tiresome 'soon' with rough eta's?

5) please use the NDA sledgehammer less, and be more transparent. There is nothing to fear from sharing with the community what you are doing before you start it, in fact, you may find the community can help you achieve those goals in a more robust way.

6) what about a PTR to enable us to help you test future patches and updates - this will go a very long way to make the community feel part of the development process.

7) Feature request - please can premium beta backers and backers, get their bobble-heads back in game?

Thank you!

Thanks for this info.

I have 2 questions:

1. Collector drones do not return successfully if your ship is moving - you need to to be totally stationary or it crashes into the hull. Is this a bug or by design?
2. The trade lines have (afaik) been broken for a while. Is there a fix for this in the works? If working by design - Please an I get an explanation of how to read them?

Thanks again!

Q : do you plan to fix Capital Ships ?
1st : Capital Ships were used to cheat with turrets and the 10s finishing kill from IA fix.
2nd : this was nerf making Capital Ships not giving finish kill (OK to me and fair)

BUT : now capital ship are so powerfull that there is no interest to be in a warzone with them.

So what is your plan to make it fun and usefull to fly with ??

It was a great add to the game but 2 quick modification make it useless. It makes me sad.

We’d love to see the process of a ship design from start to finish. Will we ever see such a thing?

We’d love to do this. We’ve offered glimpses of it with certain ships in the newsletter’s Peek Of The Week, but we’ll definitely look into showing a ship being designed from the first lines in an artist’s sketchbook to the finished model. Watch this space.

This single thing is my most anticipated. I would love to see design ethos and notes on why ships look like they are, and how.

Do you plan to do anything to improve instancing issues? At the moment it is virtually impossible for wings of opposing players to meet each other. We have to cooperate with each other, either by all quitting the game and reforming wings, or by inviting an opposing player to join our wings.
