DX12... cutting edge?
Might want to try Vulkan man, that would be a better suggestion.
They were technically supposed to, there are supposed to be a massive upgrade in the cobra engine in Odyssey. They kept refering to it as the "New Era", so yeah I am kind of surprised they didn't update the graphics processor. Then again at this point, I am half expecting a vid from a YTer showing us how they didn't update the cobra engine. So there you go.You think they are going to rewrite the whole engine? Because that's close to what it would take.
There's nothing wrong with DX11 for a game like this if your implementation is good anyways
Ohhhh, imagine the outrage if they made DX12 only![]()
But where would the fun in that be!I suppouse there is not much problem to combine DX12 and DX11 if necessary.
I think it would rise the min spec for horizons to a dx12 compilant card, but i'm not totally sure of that.
If that's the case i don't think they are comfortable with that step yet
This - I'm fairly certain it would be faster to start over with a new engineThe codebase seems like a gargantuan house of cards held together by a thin film of spray glue. It was built over years by many people who are no longer working there. To re write it now is probably impossible. The house is crooked and sagging and bleeding streams of undried glue but if you tear it down to start again, no one will remember how it was supposed to be.
Not a problem really. Windows 10 is a free upgrade!DX12 only would exclude windows 7 and 8 users, because it is windows 10 exclusive.
they have enough problems as it is - inconsistent planet tech (some planets look awesome, others are terrible compared to horizons). game isn't optimized (lack of occlusion culling, double rendering), pop-ins and fake terrain (some terrain features visible from afar, but not nearby), missions bugged (f.e. missions which grant materials might just delete what you had before, leaving you with just the reward), much too grindy requirements for weapon upgrades, no information what those upgrades do ... i could go on with this - so for now they have more than enough to do.Considering it would be an upgrade to the engine used for all of their games, it’s probably a matter of time before FDev makes the switch to a newer graphics API.
