Any idea what settings I can change to lower the frame rate suicide that is damaged settlements?

So we know that optimizations is ongoing, but I was wondering if anyone has had any success in at least mitigating some of the frame rate issues whilst navigating fire and steam etc?

I have a Ryzen 3900, 1080ti and 32gb ram, in case that helps.

Resolution seems to be the biggest performance impact by far. The difference between “ultra” and “low” only seems to be about 10 frames at most. With a 1080ti if you want consistent 60 FPS everywhere (mostly) you will likely need to go down to 1080P.

👆 What Sublime said! Lower resolution until you get the frame rate you want, but be warned that the alias will make your eyes hurt.

No, even on Low the framerate is horrible and it actually got worse for me with patch 2 (I think).

If you lower SS (Super Sampling) below 1, you're effectively lowering the resolution and should get an FPS increase. I've seen a streamer with no other recourse do that to get playable framerates.
Of course, then he couldn't read the panels further than a few feet away so...

Would you expect a 1080ti to run 60 frames at 2k? It runs pretty much everything except damaged settlements lol.

Is this a troll thread? Lower the graphics to minimum and start switching them to higher settings while comparing the framerate...

In Horizons, a 1080ti can do 4K comfortably, with all graphic settings set to max. EDO killed that big time.
Horizons is also a six year old game.

This is a six year old game with a broken rendering engine.

@Sethiest No, you won't be able to do 60 fps at 2K at the settlements. Sorry. In space? Yeah maybe, if the rest of your rig is nice. Horizons is not really a benchmark. The graphics engine in Horizons is still functioning correctly, so it's not much of a measure. I've heard expecting about half of your framerate from Horizons to Odyssey as a decent benchmark, until you get to settlements/on foot stations and then you're just at the mercy of whatever-the-heck they were thinking with the effects implementation (fire, glass, etc.)

Not a troll thread. I'm looking for advice on what settings specifically affect the things I'm having trouble with. As mentioned, I run smoothly at everything but damaged settlements due to the fire and steam, etc.

I had been tinkering with various settings at different combinations, but I don't have a great deal of knowledge on how each variable affects the performance. So trying to find what I can specifically sacrifice has been the goal. So, after about 4 hours of trying to find a good profile, I thought I might ask for help on the forums on the chance the more helpful and constructive members of the community had some insight.

Any other point in writing that apart from bashing the engine?

Yes, actually.

Odyssey is broken, but it's not the latest and greatest, newest tech. If it were, it would probably run better. DX11 (which Elite uses) handles graphics rendering in some pretty inefficient ways.

So when you say "It's a six year old game" talking about Horizons, please realize that you're making little to no distinction. Horizon is that tech used correctly. Odyssey is that same era of tech used poorly.

Personally I'd just go the trial and error route until I find something that works. I doubt you will have much to compromise with with a 1080ti.

What is your point? EDO has such amazing graphics that justifies a 2/3 performance drop?

There are only so many settings that could affect that, if at all.

If you put the quality on low, then that's the lowest it will go clearly, does low fix the issue? If so, start putting stuff up until it comes back. Boom, there is your setting.

Otherwise it's an optimization issue, which we all know are quite prevalent.

I think there's a line to be drawn with regards to performance expectations while running the game on older hardware, that's all.
