That would be cool as hell. But to be worthwhile we need a humongous land vehicle that can store a few hundred tons of mined minerals. Going back and forth your mothership every 30 seconds to drop off the 4 tons of cargo Scarab can carry would get old real fast
In short, we need this:
Shovel and pick axe available from Pioneer Store with wheelbarrow as the next SRV.
Actually anything as long as it won’t work unattended.

Well... that spice harvester would fit perfectly in the "SRV"-bay of a Panther Clipper, I guess...
Seconded. New and bigger SRVs for mining and industrial activities makes sense when we get base building.
It's supposedly a large SRV with a docking bay for a smaller SRV.
There's concept art of the Exopod. It seems to be a space-only mini-vehicle, but maybe it can hover on a planet surface.

These tasks could be done by NPCs and players. The Type-9 Heavy and Panther Clipper could have an extra large SRV bay. So if you're tired of dropping and retrieving mining / harvester vehicles then hire NPC staff to do it. The hired staff cost salaries which reduces profit. They would require accommodations and leisure at the base. The base-owner(s) could build housing and entertainment districts.

When we get base building, I'm sure they will appear...
Seeing as base building was ruled out by FD in the recent past (yes, I know some people are living under the delusion that an alleged 'leak' mentioned lots of cool stuff that ain't gonna happen) I wouldn't hold your breath for them!
(Yes, I'd love it if BB did arrive, it would make a few people happy...)
