Newcomer / Intro Any non-illegal missions in E:D Odyssey?

O7, fellow commanders.

I tried different options, but could not find an answer. Are there any missions on concourse mission boards which do not require illegal actions? So far it has always been about stealing, destroying, killing.

Anything like trade or support or something similar? I can perfectly live a "legal" life with my ships and I would like to keep it that way on foot. And exo-biology is as interesting as clipping toe nails to me.

Tx in advance.

Yes, plenty of non-illegal missions. Try differnet stations and ground bases within the system. You can also get ground missions at the terminals in working Odyssey settlements.

Oh and clipping toenails is very interesting to me, keeps them from in-growing.

Killing scavengers is not illegal. Retrieving documents or items for someone is not illegal. Restoring power to inactive bases is not illegal.
I tried several return item missions. Once I have the item in question and get scanned by a guard, they shoot me, even at threat level 0. Or I have to access the item in a security level 2 zone, which also requires me to apply stealth tactics.

I have not yet found a mission to restore power. So this seems to be a rarer mission type than others. Will try looking. Thank you all for your responses.

This sounds like theft missions, not return missions. On return missions the item in question will be legal. However, nothing else will be legal.

You can also avoid guard scans pretty easily by not walking close to any of them if you happen to be on a theft mission or other non-legal one. I’m really not a first person player yet have been able to complete things like covert infiltration missions. It works with a little planning.

I have not yet found a mission to restore power.
Are you looking in the correct places? Whether or not there are inactive installations depend on states.

Hi,
The restore power missions have become rather rare in the last week or two. Maybe because completing 10 can gain access to an engineer.

Try to avoid guards - most don't look up, nor do they run away from the station..
My current technique is to land about 1km away, then SUV to just outside, then shadow creep.

Be careful of fetch/collect missions. Sometimes they will ask you to get synthetic viruses and biological agents - those are illegal even though the mission is legal. Classic ED noobtrap.

Sounds about right... Was looking for an easy mission to get familiar with the On Foot controls just to pick up some item from a container in a friendly base, and ended up being scanned, shot at, incapacitated, and incarcerated... Nothing like trial by fire I suppose.

We've all been there...this game is all about figuring it out yourself...its a fun journey...

I don't think that counts as figuring it out yourself. It's just bad coding. It'd be great if those missions paid more and when you arrived they escorted you to a high-sec lab to hand off the stuff and did the reverse at the delivery end. And maybe the bad guys that want the stuff are meaner and some system sec would tell you to PO and stay out of their territory if you're trying to pass through. But then it'd actually feel like some kind of game that had attention to detail....

I agree that there could be better indication of what a regular courier job vs. an illegal one is when advertised (in addition to the mission being labeled Threat 0). The biologist I spoke to did not indicate in any way shape or form that the mission involved any shady/illegal activity. When you speak to other contacts on the concourse (most really), they always hint at illegality of the operation.

The ship missions clearly indicate if the job is considered illegal or not.
