Any notes on having more than 2 fire buttons?

There are lots of threads and hundreds of posts about this starting as far back as Dec 2014. Google "elite dangerous 3rd fire button" to read pages of them. I have never seen Frontier ever replying to why only two fire buttons.. Sorry, It's not their thing.

They have replied. I remember something about how the HUD was designed to display active weapons, and there being a sufficient option to switch to other weapons.
 
They can still be displayed left and right, just fire the ones on the button. They already have overlap in analysis and none analysis mode.

left and right actually is primary and secondary, that seemed to be the whole point. don't ask me why.
 
I have a good arguement, there is no drawback from implementing it. If you can't assing more than 2 fire buttons because of hardware limitations and your fire groups are working fine than you wouldn't need, but it is still there for those who CAN use it. So why not? Why not add more convenience to the game? It would be so simple.

that thinking would work if there would be for the the existing limitatuin in controls already in place. I have yet to see any good examples on how elite would work on controllers as that is the main device used on consoles, and like it or not, consoles are a big part of Elite Community too.
 
Alright, you all have changed my mind. having more than 2 fire buttons, I'll just make do with what I have and learn the best way to use it.
 
Question: If I have a turret on fire group 1 and I fire it. Does it stop firing, if I change fire the group?

I think it depends. If you have it set to fire at will I don't think it will stop firing until the target is out of sight.
