Ships Any other large ship pilot having trouble?

Over the past few days, I've went back to my small ships from my Cutter and found that I'm not that into them anymore. I kept all my modified modules, but ended up selling my ASP-X, FDL, Cobra III, and almost my Python. All ships were engineered to lvl 5. I kept the Python because it's pretty sweet looking with its ships kit on it.

Overall, my large I prefer how the large ships fly. Am I the only one?

I'd say you probably aren't the only one.

I've just gotten into my first conda and doing some exploring in it and I love the way it 'feels' to fly etc. Like you are actually commanding a ship but still being a pilot etc.

I can see that when I get back to my home base I'll be having a think about some of my other ships as well. Not sure if I would go large ship exclusively as I really like most of the ships but you have got to love the sheer number of options in the big ships

I am 'this' close to selling off my Asp. And I'm getting tired of passenger missions so I'll sell off the Orca after that as that is all I use it for. That leaves the FDL, Python, and my Corvette.

I really enjoy flying the Corvette. I love the center seat, the noises, and the versatility. Now if FD could be convinced to upgrade the FSD by one class, I'd probably sell everything off and just do my thing in the Corvette. :D

Well.
The odds of you being an "unique snowflake" are simply none. XD

I love big ships too, lately I am in my Corvette, Cutter or Python most of the time I play Elite.
The idea of being in such a large, hundreds of tons ship is so engrossing.
I am one of those that wants space legs simply because I want to walk inside my ships, entering their decks and holds, looking outside an observation deck, like the one in the front of the Anaconda.
It would be incredible having to walk to the SRV bay from the bridge, would be neat to have a small outfitting section for the vehicle. With repair options and all that. Doing some EVA or magbooting in the hull. Hiring a crew to man your big ship.

The game enforces the idea that out ships are our life, not being able to move inside them kills 50% of the idea for me. But well...

So yeah. Big ships rule.

I still have a Viper for when I need to polish my flying skills.

P.D: And yes... more jump range for the Corvette pls.

I find that every ship seems to have a niche, but after owning them all, the one indispensable ship is the Anaconda followed closely by the Python. After that, the Asp and the iCourier come to mind.

There are all kinds of arguments for all the other ships, but I find that the 4 I mentioned allow you to do everything you want to do very well. If I had to pick one more, I'd go with a Cutter for a cr machine, but the Anaconda is a decent trader as well which is why I didn't include it as a "must have."

Granted, my perspective may be different from most as I have pretty much completed my ED "bucket list" and only fly what I like for fun.

The Orca is in a class by itself for doing passenger missions, but you can also do most of those with a well outfitted Anaconda.

I do most everything but PvP so I guess I have a perspective that will differ from other - but that's OK.

Funny this topic comes up as I was just thinking about the player base and the % of large vs small ship Cmdr's.
With that said Large ships for me: Anaconda and T9 are my keepers and get 90% of my stick time.
Like to add a T7 to that list if it fit on medium pads.

In a few months you'll say "I'm bored with my conda so I started flying my small ships and wow how I love them. I may never fly my conda again ?" At least that's similar to how it went for me. Loved flying my end game ship the Corvette and did it exclusively. Now ? I'm rolling in a FDL and a Courier because they fit my needs. Have fun cmdr !

Been there, done that! I bought the Cutter and Corvette back in January 2016, ish. I would have to back to the threads to see exact dates. Then I reset my game and stayed in the Cobra /ASP-X for a very long time. But, they did away with the long range smuggling missions late I enjoyed, so I went big ship again. As long as the missions don't change, I don't see myself going back, but, never say never!

i might have to change up my Cutter, after winging up with two Corvettes tonight.

Fly the cutter for CG's, the corvette for cg's, other than that they gather dust. I like combat when I am the under dog. I prefer smaller ships, they can do so much more in half the time as flying pigs in space.

Exactly. As much as I'm enjoying the Anaconda, I regularly fly small ships as well.
I love to have ships for different roles, so my fleet right now looks like this:

Anaconda: CG hauler with defense capabilities (PvE)
Beluga: passenger missions (non-wanted passengers)
FDL: unarmed explorer, planetary scan mission vessel (I'm enjoying how the FDL feels as a lightweight build, simply enjoy flying it)
Gunship: bounty hunter and other combat (I do PvE only)
Cobra MkIV: proper multirole, alien site visitis, etc., use it a lot
Adder: used to be the planetary scan mission ship, now used for hopping around, and will be fitted as wanted passenger hauler, probably smuggler

To me, the Python does not fit into the fleet, I have a ship for every role that is much better at it than the Python would be (edit: I might get one down the road, as I think it is a good looking ship). Currently the only ship I'm looking forward to get is the Corvette for its looks and feeling, not because I need it.

Never sell a ship.
If you accumulated enough hours and lightyears, you are in need of a change. Even after flying a multicannon Corvette for a while, you might wonder how a laser Corvette performs. So just buy another one instead of ripping apart a well composed and engineered ship.
So I ended up with 2 Cutter, 3 Corvettes, 5 Anacondas, 5 Pythons, 5 FerDeLances, 6 Couriers, 3 Clippers, 2 Gunships, 2 Assault Ships, 4 ASPs, 5 T6's, 2 Orcas, 4 Dolphins, ...

You get it. I think firstly its lots of fun to lay kiel to a new ship and to outfit and engineer it. You can experiment with configurations and you dont run into problems with module storage (I still have 2 Dropships for module storage). I like to misuse ships for tasks they were not designed to.

But one thing is for shure: every once in a while everyone needs a change. And an Imperial Eagle just feels great after a long while in big ships.

Sounds a bit like me actually! although I haven't reached your level yet (down to cash flow I suppose ;))

I do take a similar approach that is buy a new hull and equip it as opposed to messing around with an existing well balanced build it does mean I've got over thirty ships currently, it'd be hard to pick a favourite as I enjoy flying all of them but ATM I'm into medium/large vessels like the Python and Anaconda.

I like to switch it up. Some days that means taking my Imperial Cutter out for a spin, other days I just feel more like flying something light and fast like my Imperial Courier, or an Eagle. Or I take the Fer De Lance and go bounty hunting for a bit.

So, I keep a bunch of ships and components at my "home base" - that allows me to switch to whatever I feel like doing that day with relative ease.

It depends, I fly a mix these days. Small ships are a lot of fun, especially in a wing. Sometimes I prefer the big ships though, my Anaconda is my main. I need to take my vette out again it's been collecting dust for months.

OP you certainly aren't alone. I've been in the Conda for over 18 months now, and apart from participating in the mad dashes across the black when FD lead us to the crashed vessels, ruins and such in my trusty DBX and a small outing to the Zurara in a exploration Dolphin I always go back to that big beast. I do still keep most of my other vessels around as keepsakes collecting virtual space dust
