Any puzzles to crack?

Returning player here. Made triple Elite years ago and took an interest in the story (decoding thargoid transmissions, searching for new points of interest, that kind of thing). Just installed Odyssey for the first time. What's the latest on the weird stuff, are there any active puzzles I can have a crack at?

The Guardian writing? I don’t think anyone’s ever really got anywhere with that!

Well, there's still this one from from February.

However, there are several questions that must be answered internally to inform this communication plan. It is important to me that we address key subjects by priority and when we do that the information we provide is clear. The team and I are working incredibly hard behind the scenes to gather this information and provide these answers.

It's cool, I'm not bothered about spoilers. Fire away.
All I remember about the guardians is they're some extinct race and you could get upgrades for your ships by visiting some structures. I think I got the FSD booster.

Cool, well there’s a couple of missions you can get from Ram Tah, by docking at the stations in Meene.

Doing them gets various bits of info from Ram Tah. Mild aside here - that info is sometimes referred to as lore, but it isn’t strictly lore - rather it is Ram Tah’s commentary on the data you are sending him.

Anyway, if you want to give them a shot, head to Meene, dock at the main station and one of the outposts to get the mission and then head out to the Guardian sites. It’s kind of a puzzle, so you might want to give it a try yourself.

If you want to go straight to the info, Canonn have got it all on their site.

You’ll need to read the Language parts but other aspects are probably helpful too.

Then it’s a case of looking for examples of the writing on Guardain stuff and seeing if you can work anything out. Like I say though, I don’t think anyone’s really got anywhere with it!

A bit of a warning though this isn’t something where it’s a puzzle in the sense of us knowing that there is a solution, and solving it will result in something. - there’s no mechanic for it, it’s just eyes, camera and info.

Examples of one of the forms of writing are on Relic Towers, Relics (IIRC), the object inside the Relics, the main panel of active Obelisks, and at various places at the Guardian Structures, in particular the pylons which have destructible panels them.

Examples of the second form of writing also seem to be on the pylons mentioned above, possibly on the Relic Towers, and possibly at various other places at the Guardian Structures.

(Guardian Structures being one type of Guardian site, Ancient Ruins being the other.)

Thargoid machine is still a mystery, if activated it displays a star map and if used with guardian relics it is sending what some believe to be a distress call and some believe it is trying to open a witchspace.

btw...in my opinion, it is still missing more content but I do think this machine is a portal of sort. You would activate the star map, choose a destination some how with uplinks and after using guardian relics which are basically power sources, machine would open up a witchspace (portal).

That's great, thanks very much. I appreciate I may not get anywhere with it (and it may not lead anywhere anyway), but finding new stuff is the main appeal of the game for me so this is just what I was looking for.

I'm at one of those thargoid structures playing now, it's suitably spooky especially on foot in the dark, there are also barnacle forests where relogging can make a thargoid spawn and then "feed" on the barnacle. Can't get too close on foot though as it makes the game crash to desktop. Found that pretty epic too, especially in the dark.

How far out are you (LY from Sol)?

Definitely something you should check out if you never did before. You go to a system with planet Unknown Structure is based on and you will find a machine inside that structure. This website should help you find one fast and is easy to use... http://elitedangerous.hozbase.co.uk/
What is your Cmdr name, I will send you in game friend request

The thargoid machines are outstanding - I can't agree with lump enough as something to try out. Put the effects sound up as well, they really make it spooky as!

I went to the Pleiades sector, at the the moment I'm around 400ly from Sol.

Edit: Apparently there are also sites where thargs are stealing escape pods from crashed human ships, but I haven't seen that myself yet. And I imagine that there is more Thargoid stuff to see that I still haven't found out about. Not sure if there are any great puzzles to be found though. Apparently you can also be hyperdicted by thargs, that is to say they can pull you out witch space while you jump systems.

Just jumping around the nebula itself used to get this to happen every few jumps, even if you don't have any thargoid or guardian stuff on board in the cargo rack.

The basic hyperdictions aren't dangerous if you aren't carrying stuff, but they are very spooky and scary when it happens first. Especially if you get to experience it all and just glimpse a flower up close, but I don't want to spoil it by saying more. Just take spare underwear!

Also if you place certain items at those bright spots where scavengers are working, they get teleported upwards to the top of a cliff.
