Any tips for 4.0?

So, I took a few months off Elite after the console announcement in March (my main, historic account is PS4). I fired it up again the other day and came back in here to find quite a few updates!

I have had a second PC account for some time so I took the opportunity last night to add the 4.0 client to my launcher. It's now installed and I've had a quick cargo run across Colonia to test things - it seems fine.

As noted I am historically a console gamer so don't have much knowledge of graphical etc settings on the PC - other than choose the resolution, I've basically left things on default.

Which brings me to my question - are there any optimisations I can do by tweaking any of the settings?

My machine is Core i7, 16GB RAM, GTX 1050, 4GB VRAM so not super powerful I know but it handles Horizons fine. It's a laptop so I have no upgrade options so please don't suggest upgrading the GFX card. I'm running at 1440p, 60fps on a monitor.

Also, with the above specs what do people think my chances of running Odyssey are? Could I get an acceptable level of performance?

Well, you said it seems fine :)
That should be enough

The only thing anyone can add is check the settings and lower them one step below if anything is not running ok for you (as in if you are on medium, switch to low)

OK, yeah, Odyssey probably not a goer right enough - not particularly bothered by that to be honest.

But, has anyone got any suggestions for my original question - is there anything in the settings I can / should tweak for the 4.0 client?

to put things in persevtive this odyssey is entirely playable on an i7 with a gtx790 @1920x 1080 mind you that was a desktop so does not have the poor cooling factor of a laptop and it did have fantastic corsair fast ram fitted

So, yeah that DTEA vid was exactly what I was looking for. Managed to tweak a few settings and and seem to be able to hit 60fps without sacrificing too much quality.

So, with Odyssey sitting at £15 in the Epic Game Store until tomorrow, am sorely tempted to add it.

Also, kicking myself for missing the console copy over service - my console account is sitting at 12 bil + assets as opposed to my PC account only at 600 odd mil. Pretty much the biggest urge to get Odyssey is to jump my carrier from the bridge and my PC account is WAY off being able to buy one.

Can you not still do the transfer?

Although I was just about to take the Anaconda out on the PS4 and it's kicked me out of my account - hopefully it won't take too long.

Maybe, just maybe, you will have to lower the resolution to 1080p for on-foot gameplay. On-foot gameplay, especially in settlements, can still tank the framerate even on more powerful GPUs.

Another note: because of the big, really big update this Tuesday, I would wait another few days until fine tuning and tweaking your settings into some final configuration. Firstly, because maybe they will address some of the more prominent glitches (like missing proper anti-aliasing). Secondly, because nearly everybody around here will be busy stargoiding.

I could live with that to be honest - been on 1080p all this time on PS4.

I have no idea what this Stargoid thing is all about - Thargoid motherships or something?
There are 8 of them, and nobody knows for sure what they are. We'll all find out tomorrow. Hence my advice.

You can read about them here:
(Sorry for all the walls of text, I still tried to keep it down to the bare minimum.)
