Hardware & Technical Any video settings tips for Radeon R9 390?

I was lucky enough to be able to build a new gaming PC for myself last month with an R9 390 GPU but I haven't looked to optimise the video settings for ED yet - any tips?

Well there is two ways of doing it. Start off at the highest settings and work your way down until the game is playable. Or start off low and work your way up the settings until you are comfortable with the compromise.

That said, the R390 is a pretty powerful card and should handle the game at or very near its highest settings without slow down.

Im maxed out with my current monitor (see signature) and seeing 60 frames plus although awaiting a 4k monitor arriving and hoping for high settings there to.

Hopefully AMD/FD can finally track down the SuperCruise bug which causes frames to drop to 10 which is making the game difficult to play.

NB changed signature and monitor since this post, original monitor was an Iiyama 27" @ 1920*1080

I'd be surprised if that card couldn't handle everything at Ultra, perhaps even at 4K. Might need to bump shadows down to High for planet surfaces, but apart from that you should be golden

To give you an idea, I get 35 - 60 fps and average around 45 fps or so on planets, with all settings as high as they'll go @ 1440p, with a 290X.

Urgh, @ 1080p you can safely just hit ultra-everything.
My ancient HD 6870 can manage it @ 55fps. Lol

You'll have no problems. Except the SC issue. (Which I don't get cos I'm to old Lol)

One 40 inch Philips BDM4065UC arrived today so now flying around at 3840*2160 @ 60hz via the display port on an MSI R9 390.
Space is fine getting 55-60 and the station quite good as well 45fps and at Ultra settings, however!
On the planets its been dropping to around 22fps, so to compromise I dropped everything to High Settings and getting an okay 30 fps on the ground and great everywhere else.

Better optimised drivers of course we are still waiting for from AMD and that doesn't let FD of the hook either ;)

Planning on dropping another R9 390 into my rig in the near future.

Happy flying :)

You should be able to have everything Ultra and just drop Shadows to High and still be OK - its the Shadows that kill a lot of FPS
