Any way to disable head-tracking in station menus?

Just monkeying around with head-tracking and I've stumbled on a problem.

I'm generally fine with it during flight but, after I dock, I like to lean forward and browse the station menus using a mouse, which zooms the menus in and makes them all wonky on the screen.
Also, if I move my head as I'm about to click on something the view moves "underneath" the mouse pointer, which could easily lead to selecting something unintentionally.
I've got a feeling that it's only a matter of time before I move my head just as I'm about to click on "use this ship" and end up accidentally selling it instead.

So, is there a key-binding for "disable head-tracking" so I can view the standard station menus and then re-enable it when I take off?
I can see there's a setting to enable/disable mouse-look but nothing to do the same for head-tracking.

Also, I know my head-tracking software allows me to create hotkeys to enable/disable it but I'd like to do it within ED so I can allocate a button on my HOTAS to it.

Yes there is , and this is what I do .
My head tracking is set on On by default, ans I use "²" to recenter it , and ALT+² to disable/enable it.

Works very well. Enjoy!

ps: if i remember it is in the options regarding mouse headlook or somthing like that.

No way to disable head tracking in menus but you can fix your issues by changing the mouse option from hardware to software

If you are using Track IR you have the option to select an F key to centre, F12 by default, and F9 by default to temporarily disconnect it from the game. Both are resettable to something more convenient.

Oh yes and ensure your partner doesn't walk behind you with a fluorescent yellow jacket or armbands, especially if you are in the middle of going through the slot or in combat. Very disconcerting.

And keep the room dark :D a sudden sun beam can REALLY screw things up

You using that Track Clip? Drives me bonkers that thing, scratch your face, screen spaz, light flickers, screen spaz, someone walks past, screen spaz.

TrackIR used to be sold with the TrackClip PRO by default, now they upped the price by £40 and made the Pro clip seperate for an extra £45

I'm just using FaceTracknoIR at the moment.

Problem is that all the hotkeys for it are "ctrl+[key]" style ones and that means I can't bind them to a joystick control easily.

That's why I was hoping ED had it's own control for disabling head-tracking.

I find the track clip works fine on what is called a baseball style cap as long as I close the curtains to my right during the day. My only problem seems to be the two cats we own thinking that it is a cat toy. after they have detached it from my cap when I am out of the room. I guess I will need to replace the reflecting tabs soon as they are looking decidedly mouse wounded these days.

This needs more visibility, the issue with head tracking and the mouse in station menus is fixed by switching to software. The cursor becomes a virtual cursor tied to the station's menu in 3d space rather than being tied to the screenspace.
The downside is that the software cursor is tied to framerate so it can feel a bit sluggish if your FPS is low.

Until the tobii 4c is fixed I'm using FaceTrackNoIR again. I just put a key/macro on the Joystick button. Works for me. ;)

Not to hijack the thread, but what brand of tracking device is the "best" setting aside VR goggles? I'm looking at purchasing something like the TrackIR5 but I have no experience with any of it.

I can only speak for TrackIR5 since that's what I have but it's very good.

TrackIR 5 user here - in the TrackIR software you can bind a key or button to Pause. I've got a spare button on my HOTAS bound to this so I can tap it whenever I want to stop headtracking (at which point the view in ED centers itself after a second or so). I typically do this when in station (but also sometimes when stray sunlight would otherwise mess up my tracking).

The big selling point of TrackIR compared to something like EDTracker is 6dof. Thing is ED offers very limited range of lateral motion atm, so if just for ED I'd go for the much cheaper EDTracker Pro. If you plan on using it in other games as well (flight sims, Arma etc..) TrackIR5 is the best you can get, although vastly overpriced.

Good points. Also, VoiceAttack works well with head tracking. I use TrackIR so I created a few macros - Tracking On, Tracking Off, Reset Tracking, Enable Tracking, Disable Tracking. The latter two are useful for when daylight bounces off the wall behind me at certain hours of the day, causing TrackIR to go nuts, usually during combat when I need it most. Also, I've modified my other VoiceAttack macros to automatically call Tracking On and Tracking Off macros. For example, when I deploy weapons or request docking permission, the Tracking On macro is automatically called. Similarly, when I retract weapons, the Tracking Off macro is automatically called. I have the Tracking On/Off macros assigned to a button so that I can turn off tracking after landing to keep the menus from moving around.
