Any way to protect my cargo hatch?

Hi, Is there anyway to protect my cargo hatch? Getting fed up with losing my engineer cargo due to getting my cargo hatch shot off by elite Anacondas [blah]. By the time ive killed the anaconda and start to scoop it up I lose half of it as it explodes [mad]. Thanks

The strange thing is i haven't lost my shields at the time. Are the AI using a engineer weapon on me.? It only happens when im in my Corvette. And the attacker is always in an AI elite anaconda. It always happens when im fueling at a star.

Hi Commander . If your shields are up they cant hit your cargo hatch ?

Please check your power settings, is the hatch going "Off line" when you deploy weapons !

This sounds like you're overheating... overheating can damage your modules, including your cargo hold. Is it possible you're also overheating when fighting elite Anacondas because you're firing weapons for a long time? or firing SCBs?

Also.. these "engineers cargo", they're not UAs are they? (For Pailn perhaps). Because those things damage your modules too..

Yes that makes sense as as im already hot due to the refueling at the star, and im armed with beam lasers to add to the heat. I didnt know that overheating can kill the hatch. Thanks for all the help guys.

Turn your cargo hatch off, the only weapon I know that can punch through shields to damage a module severely is a railgun with a modification

Overheating will indeed do the trick.
Using a shield cell bank in combat will damage your modules and every subsequent use will damage them a bit more.
The cargo hatch is always the first to pop in my experience.
I can use two shield cells. When I use the third my hatch pops and cargo spills out.
I have lost some very precious engineer commodities that way, because I was forced to go into combat zones to get some materials and had no way to store the engineers commodities I already had collected in my hold.
This is one of the reasons I want to be able to store my engineers commodities.

Another line of defence for those times when shields do go down, set your hatch to a high priority (low number) in your power management settings (assuming your build has the juice spare with weapons deployed). If power to the hatch suddenly goes due to pp damage, it may open spontaneously and start crapping cargo out.

It's generally a good idea to use heat sinks with SCBs to avoid this, especially on larger ships.. On my Python have have the base shield sized to around double what I can get from a size 6A SCB. You can fire two SCBs with one heatsink without overheating, so I fire 1 SCB, fire heat sink, wait 5 seconds, fire another SCB. This allows me to completely refill my shields with 700MJ of shield energy. I usually use a macro so that I don't have to think about it.. I can do this process 3 times with just one heat sink launcher using 6 total cell banks. If I want to pop the last 2, I fire them one at a time and fry a little.. :) I could carry a second heat sink, but I prefer to use the slot for something else..

Pretty sure they can. I've had my Shield Gen reduced from 100% to 0% in a single shot even though my Shields were up and running at 100%. I'd, therefore think this could be done with any module. This meant my shields were instantly down and unable to regenerate with the first shot of combat! The enemy's shot either a) went through my shields to destroy the Shield Gen or b) the enemy's shot was so powerful it stripped my shields and destroyed my Shield Gen.

There used to be a glitch where hatch breakers couldn't pop your hatch if you had it powered off. This led to people advising to make sure your hatch is disabled for extra protection.

That glitch was fixed and the opposite is now true - you want your hatch powered to help protect against spillage.

Point defence kill hatch breaking limpets. Not much help against npc ships with full engineers weapons rack but just putting it out there.
