Any way to zoom-in on the panels in the cockpit?

Hi, any way to zoom-in on the panels in the cockpit when playing the game in VR, or any way to zoom at all? I have configured Trinus VR to work with Elite and it's a lot of fun, but despite the relatively high res, the fonts in the cockpit are hard to read. Is there any way to zoom-in? Any setting or mod? I fail to find any when browsing through the controls.

Thanks for the help!

You can set an option to lock panels in Mode Switches section - that zooms in on them when activated. Not sure if it works in whatever hocus-pocus you're trying to do with Trinus :D

For some reason this just reminds me of the Red Dwarf episode when Kryten becomes human and Lister has to teach him to move his head closer to things as he no longer has a zoom function on his eyes ...

“However much I tweak my nipple I just can’t seem to pick up Jazz FM ...”

Unfortunately, the settings do not cause a zoom-in, they just open up the panels. Moving forward does not decrease the distance in-game, maybe because I configured the steam VR for "sitting" not "the whole room". Any other suggestions? I find it hard to believe such a basic option is missing.

Trinus VR does not have positional tracking. So moving physically is indeed pointless.
Not sure how to resolve this problem for you.

Maybe try a smaller ship? The Eagle has the panels closer to you.
(at least I think there is a difference between ships.. not completely sure, try it :p)

I doubt that is the case, though it probably depends on the VR solution adopted.

With the VIVE (and VIVE Pro), calibrating for seated position does not stop physical head location relative to the notional calibrated origin.

If your VR solution only tracks head orientation, then there is nothing that can be done in all likelihood.

Based on my experience in-game, there is no significant difference between ships where the holo-display viewing distances are concerned.

Well, I'm actually flying an Anaconda with an intention of getting the Cutter quite soon. Wouldn't want to be forced to change a ship just because the panels are closer to the head. Maybe FOV reduction will help but I think I'll leave further experimenting for a later time. It took me 3 days to get it all running up to this point and I'm kinda burnt out.

FOV adjustment would be effectively doing the same thing but doing so may have undesirable side effects - the nominal VR settings for ED are probably optimal for general gameplay in VR.

I am guessing you are having trouble with the optical resolution (pixels per degree of FoV) and by consequence reading the text on the panels. I had this problem to a degree with the VIVE, the VIVE Pro is sufficiently higher optical resolution (about 40%) to mitigate the textual resolution concerns for me.

That's not true for some ships. Eagle Mk2 does have the panels closer that the other ships.

I have not noted that particular quirk (and I do have at least one of every ship) - assuming it is not an optical illusion, as I suspect (when I have the time, I will have a closer look at the claim some are making) - in general though it is pretty moot.

The Trinus VR system is effectively a google cardboard VR solution which is ok as a VR concept demonstrator but not really what I would call a serious VR solution. I can appreciate how some may be attracted to it by the relatively low entry level VR cost but if you want to use VR with ED, then you really should consider investing in at least one of the cheaper dedicated headset solutions with guaranteed head position and orientation tracking. Providing you have the connectors on the card, then even some of the older higher performing but not VR certified graphics cards should suffice.

That being said, I doubt it would take much for FD to add support for a FoV zoom control for those that have one of the more basic VR solutions that just provide head orientation tracking.
