Anybody found Braben's in-game secret(s)?

I may have found something...
It will look suspiciously fake but- there was a thing. Some things. Dunno.

*Thinks*

You see- I was in my Cobra Mk.III, the "Wolfram", that one there... the gray-camo'ed one.
I went off in the big black a couple weeks ago... the first time I ever went off.

I wasn't expecting much, you see. Just went along the solar wind...
Needed cash, had to let some things cool off, some people wanted... well, that sorta stuff.
Where? *chuckles* I ain't saying that. I couldn't anyway- *sigh* just listen, ok?

Anyway- I didn't reach THAT far- probably around a thousand Lightyears away.
My "Wolfram" wasn't really 'sporting the best FSD... But I digress.

As I was saying I was more or less a K away- damn my head, I forgot the name of the system- and I suddenly read from my sensors an unresolved contact.

*sips a ZeroGeeze*

Well You can imagine my face. There was NONE around. No thing. Nada. Except this one planet nearby. *waves a generic direction* Sort of a terraformable ball o'rock...
I stood there for a good ten minutes.

What the hell is THAT. An unresolved contact- this far away?
Surely a Lost Hull*?

Well I caved in to my curiosity and dropped from FSD.

*Whisper*
It was aliens.

*Rolls eyes*

Well not PROPER aliens.
But Alien Artifacts.

Took me a helluva deal of blow torches heads to pierce through the external case.
And I even lost the thing.

Yep sort of disintegrated.
But the remaining four- they were mine.

*Drain the remainder of the Zero Geeze from the sinto-glass*

Sold them for a hefty chunk of Creds.
Never looked back.

And guess what?
Now the station that I sold them to is in Civil War.

You think it's a coincidence?
HA! My Asp. Someone knows.

Anyways- I have now earned enough money and I'm going back there. I don't know what the system was- But I can find it.

*Smiles knowingly*

This is no "coolstorybraah"- this is a thing.
Wait and see...

*looks around then gazes at you again*

Wait and see.

I think if there's something to find it will be obviously "fishy" and should be found on routine scans of unexplored systems with the advanced discovery scanner. It would be poor game planning and rather cruel if "they" could only be found by deep searching all 400 billion systems. I think someone will scan a planet or something and a message will pop up that there is something "fishy" nearby. I am hoping that it's something really cool like a derelict dyson sphere or a living breathing alien culture, not just thargoids and instant death! I also think it may be closer to inhabited systems than way out on a spiral arm or deep in the core too. That's my current plan, to head back, repair/upgrade ship and start looking in unexplored systems closer to my home in 33 Bootis.

Good luck fellow explorer commanders.

I'm talking about the one(s) alluded to in the recent Q&A. He seems to imply there's something more than stellar phenomena for us explorers to find out in the black after the recent Wings update. Anybody have any clue what it might be?

Hi Virgil,

I am not sure about this one...I think he's bluffing...with the amount of explorers out there and the amount of stars and systems scanned and/or visited, I would like to think that we should have noticed something by now.

Let's assume there is something out there. Worst case scenario is that they did it with Wings, which is latest update. That's back to Mid March. Coincidentally, I recall a spike during those days in exploration. I remember people being all upset with civilization due to markets, nerfings, and all sort of changes that were taking place.

Then the "First Discovered" Tag came along with the update and now, more than ever, more people ventured out to the void. We are now at the peak of exploration in the young history of the ED Galaxy and yet nothing has been found.

Few thoughts:

-It is hidden in asteroids, as suggested above by someone else.
-It is in that massive locked down area on the other size of the Galaxy -I think 1GE is taking on that area right now.
-It can't be something human made up to real life history as we already found the Voyager Probes, which are the farthest man made objects to date. From this:
a)It's either human made but in our RL future and in ED past or,
b)It's alien and probably pointing out to Thargoids
-It should be relatively close to home if they really wanted it to be found. Anything beyond the 1,000 light years mark from Sol, would be asinine unless is a popular nebula. (Witch Nebula, with locked system falls within this three speculations)

Finally, for all we know, he can be just teasing. Not smart if he is, cause it will make people going searching to places now, that will be ignored later when the real thing is put in place.

My two cents in the matter, but this quest is worst than the Black Titan thing. Clues are less, and the space includes the whole Galaxy....not sweating it, really.

Try bringing your Alien Artefacts here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=140846 and see what happens.

Hi Virgil,

We've explored less than 1% of the galaxy in game so far...

It is not a quest. There are not meant to be clues! If you want to make it your personal quest to find something that hasn't been seen by other players, the same way that other explorers make it their personal quest to first-discover a black hole, that's great (we're explorers after all!), but Braben did not suggest a task or give you a mission, he was asked if people had already seen everything there was to see, and he told us that no, space is still big and deep and mysterious.

You suggest he is bluffing, but the game has already demonstrated that it contains undescribed content - there was no announcement or indication that the ancient Voyager probe was still on its trajectory, someone just stumbled across it one day. And, a USS in the Sol system is such low-hanging fruit that it's naturally going to be stumbled on much faster than almost anything else. It seems unlikely that all content would be placed in areas as super-highly-scrutinized as that.

The take-home message should simply be "Space is big. Don't get complacent." ;)

Nope.

As in the other thread, I stand by my assertion:

Currently, in the game today, no such thing exists. It's a snipe hunt.

IMO: He either misunderstood, was misunderstood, is intentionally being deceptive/misleading, or doesn't know what's actually in the game, today. Will it be patched in, in the future? Sure, maybe. But is it in the game NOW? Nope.
There's nothing in the game files to indicate anything even remotely like what's implied by his cryptic claim.

Currently, in the game today, no such thing exists..[/SPOILER]

I don't agree. It sounds like you are coming to this conclusion based on a failure to find identifiably unique assets in the game files. It is not difficult to imagine incredible discoveries (eg. a giant spaceship graveyard) that involve no unique assets, built using unique scripting or coding.

(And putting my dev hat on, if I'm tasked with making content for people to stumble upon, and I know that people are poring through the asset files, I'm going to try at least slightly to design around what those people can uncover. In fact, obfuscation is a fun little game in its own right :) )
I'm also going to expect that it will be leaked before it's discovered (and in my most recent game, it was, spectacularly quickly) but I'm still not going to make it easy :)

1- Was speaking figuratively. I am aware is not a goal or task. Thanks.

2.-Only instance and only "easter egg" that has ever been found. Also, the most obvious one to gain credibility and accuracy respect. This is by no means, representative or enough proof that there are more out there.

Actually, I don't think that's an accurate statement, I distinctly remember Mr Brooke's dropping some rather big hints about their existence just as Sol became accessible.

MB dropped a clue in another thread

Listen to the Cargo Canisters containing Unknown Artifacts.

Now I just need to figure out what WSS/USS/SSS has them and survive long enough to listen and record...

No such things when you're 30.000 LYs from inhabited space... actually, I can't remember the last time I've seen USS (or whatever it's called nowadays).
