Anybody notice a drop in quality...?

Oculus software updated for me yesterday, and rather stupidly, I also updated my Nvidia graphics driver... So now I'm not sure which is the culprit.

I have noticed in stations now a bit of stuttering, nothing too terrible, but definitely noticeable. Reminds me slightly of the stuttering that I had when playing with a 960, but now using a 1080 which has been smooth and clear since I started using it.

ye, unfortunately i did exactly the same. oculus update and nvidia driver update and found me jittering inside a coriolis. got a 1070 though which ran fine before those updates...

I'm back into VR after a few months, and the gray flashes and stuttering are back for me in Elite, too. I think it was Oculus 1.15 or 1.16 that fixed those issues, but now they're back.

Thanks guys... Hopefully a fix will come soon.

From what I can tell there's no way to ignore or roll back the oculus software updates.

For my experience since the drop of 2.4, is opposite to your your findings. I think my Rift experience has improved with less (Not gone completely) stuttering around stations and Ice Res sites, improved clarity!

updated to OH 1.19 today and took a short testflight departing from a station and returning in open with an instance of 3 to 5 other cmdrs. I did not notice any changes in quality, stuttering or FPS. Running nvidia 384.94 drivers.
I also have better performance with 2.4 compared to 2.3

after latest oculus update i updated my nvidia driver as well and found myself jittering inside the station. i uninstalled the latest nvidia driver and went with the one before and my jitter is all gone and game is as shiny as before :) nvidia driver i am using now is 385.69.

Nothing to do with 2.4... :)

The slight stuttering happened when oculus updated it's software, and I then updated to the latest Nvidia drivers (not in front of PC, so not sure which version, but the ones released on 9th October). Dumb of me to update two things at once, as now I'm not sure which is the culprit.

I didn't really notice much of a difference between 2.3 and 2.4. Essentially, with the 1080 I was getting a very smooth and clear experience, although ASW was (and is) dropping to 45 Fps in stations and on planets, but that was not noticeable and there was no stutter at all.

At least you can install the previous, known-working, nvidia driver to determine the cause. Whereas you can't roll back the Oculus driver.

Haven't played in VR since I got 1.19 yesterday but will try it later today. Am also still on the previous nvidia driver.

Yes, I'm thinking that is what I should do, at least just to figure out what has caused it... :)

Well, I rolled back the Nvidia drivers from 387.92 to 385.69 which was the previous driver used. Did a clean install, removing the existing drivers. Still getting a small amount of stuttering when sitting in a station. Hard to tell if it's better, worse or the same, as it really is quite a small amount, but I'm leaning towards thinking it may be the oculus software, as I'm sure it was very smooth before.

The game is very much still playable, so I guess I'll just stay on these drivers for a while.

Fixed my gray-outs and stutters by disabling Game Mode. Re-enabled Game Mode and the gray-outs and stutters returned. Disabled Game Mode again and they went away again.

Done.

To disable Game Mode:
- Bring the game's preview window into focus
- Windows + G
- Settings (gear icon)
- Uncheck "Use Game Mode for this game"

I love the idea of Game Mode, but apparently it has negative effects for VR games.

May your frame rates be high, commanders.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly that didn't make a difference for me.

To be fair, the stuttering that I am getting is very, very minimal. I have opened a ticket with Oculus support, and they are suggesting running the Oculus repair tool, and possibly a reinstall of Oculus Home software, so will try that.

Feels like I'm being picky, but the game was very smooth before, so these little stutters or judders are just a bit jarring.

I've always had weird jittering in stations once in a while but it is always so random I can never really mess around with drivers or settings to test it.

I had some bad grey outs / stuttering last night and when I looked at the Task Manager Windows module manager or something was working hard in the background. Before it started I was getting good performance as usual with the 2.4 run.

Will try turning game mode off as well and see if that makes any difference.

To me the gray outs were related to positioning. I haven't moved my sensors but for some reason it seems only the right sensor is working even though both are set up and appear to be functional. I noticed the jittering too though, positional jitter, not normal game pauses.

Positional jitter sounds like one camera is on a dodgy connection, had this a few times when running extensions on my rift camera it would start acting up.
Only solution was to ditch the extension cable.

Might even be better to disconnect an errant sensor and using one.

For steamvr however, the grey screen is a symptom of certain processes not responding in a timely fashion not necessarily tracking loss.
But it might lead to a tracking loss.

Hmm.. Don't think the jitter is hardware related (but thanks for the reply). I use no extension cables connecting any of my rift equipment. All of it plugged directly into the back of the PC. Sensors haven't moved or changed, and the (very, very slight) jitter that I am getting started the first time I started playing after the two software updates that I installed.

I did open a support ticket with Oculus, and they are being very attentive. I have repaired the Oculus Home software, and may try a clean install as a next step. I downgraded the Nvidia drivers, but may look to doing a total remove and reinstall of them, since it didn't appear that it was the new drivers that were the cause anyway. TBH, the small amount of jitter that I am getting doesn't get in the way of gameplay at all, it's just noticeable after having such a smooth experience since upgrading to the 1080, so I may be being a bit over sensitive.

Just want to chime in and say i'm expiriencing similar degradation in performance.

had 1.25 SS and 1.5HMD quality until yesterday, everything ran fine inside stations.

Yesterday updated to nvidia drivers 387.92 (oculus home did update as well actually) and now getting bad judder inside stations, had to remove SS completely to somewhat fix it. with 1.0SS and 1.5HMD quality there is still minor judder.
