Anybody tried exploring in a Wing yet?

Not sure that would work. A trip can last for ages and it just wouldn't be practical to get everyone online at the same time - I think the wing would just end up separated.
Having said that I've not really tried wings, so might misunderstand how it works... Just doesn't seem to fit my play style.

I like the idea of exploring in a wing, BUT there are some serious problems with it in terms of what happens if you break up said wing before returning to turn the data in. I forget the details, but others will no doubt fill you in.

This. The notion of putting mulitple first tags is interesting, but that will only work if you're really dedicated to spend an hour just jumping out to unexplored space together, then scan a few systems, then fly home again. We're talking about a very dedicated session here, which you should easily plan four hours for to get just half a dozen systems mapped, since you need to fly out and back home in the same session.
I'm curious what mossfoot means with serious problems. What happens if you disband a wing before you turn in?
It work over 13.000 ly but We still don't know if the data are really shared over this distance
Surely i would wait till 1.3 comes out, with the re-fueling drones and the extra fuel tanks, if your poor wingmate gets stranded you can save him

I explored a system in a wing with two different friends when we passed each other - one 500ly from Sagittarius A*, the other about 13k from Sol.
First time he was heading straight home so sold the data first, but as soon as he sold the data both of our names were on the first discovered tag. I got credits for the data when I got home.
The second friend is still outbound to Sgr A* so I've sold the data first.
It seems to work nicely, with the first friend we explored a whole binary system with an EL and WW+TC, around 50 objects in all. It was far quicker than scanning the system alone.
So it doesn't matter if you don't stay in the wing from beginning of a trip to the end, and it's unlikely that you'd do a long trip in a wing all the way. It's a good option if you do meet a friend out in the void. I'd like to think that one day someone else will find our EL system 26k from home and wonder how the he'll two commanders happened to be in a wing so far out. F

Done some tests with a friend yesterday, nothing is consistent.

Perhaps, but when testing it in the game, this don't function correctly.
And I don't mean "credited", I mean "datas is shared".
How do you want to know what was is scanned by your mate if you can't see it in the navigation panel and/or on planet descriptions ?

We did the experience yesterday, so information is accurate. We were in wing, with voice communication activated.
We arrived together in a system. I started to scan "main" sun and closed planets, while he went to a 3K Ls other sun.
The planets I was discovering were "discovered" for him almost instantly at the beginning - and then he started to no more receive my "discovered" objects... I benefited from the discovery of the sun he scanned, but I was not credited from the discovery of the planets around "his" sun.
I then went to join him - but he was no more on my radar!!! We were close one to each other, but none of us was seeing the other in his radar...
He left Hyperspace and entered it again - we then started to see each other on our radars... And surprisingly, he started to be credited for planets I discovered before... But I was not credited from his discoveries...
I then left for a 13K Ls planet, while he was scanning moons around the 3K Ls sun. When it was discovered for me, it was not the case for him... And I was not credited from his moon's discoveries. I went back to him, and at a given time I received some of his past discoveries, while he did not receive my planet's one.
Conclusion: there's something rotten in wing's exploration. As long as you are close one to the other, the discoveries are shared, but as soon as you are further than 1K Ls (approx. value), it's no more the case.

BTW, be careful. You share scans but if you guys lose sync (like someone flies too far and you can't see eachother on the scanner anymore), one of you will need to relog to make it work again. Keep an eye or one guy will be missing out on all the firsts until noticed.

Maybe it is, but I am so glad I went with a buddy. It was an experience like no other. I will never forget it.

I think that, on balance, my friend and I are probably going to give this a try and see how it goes. We'll see if we can put some double frog names into a few new systems.

Which confirm what we tested.
Having a wingmate on the scanner is some 1800 LS.
It can be less and can also be due to connectivity. I play with a US wing made and we can lose each other even at 500ls, and even randomly for no reason
