Anyone else excited about Planetary Landings in VR??

So, hopefully the 1.5 stutter fix in SC comes with the planetary landings beta, due now on Monday.

Watching the Braben vid of him landing at Europa I found that I was muttering (loudly) to myself "....forget this look left button nonsense, this will look to dogs-danglies with my Rift...."

:D

Anyone else excited??????

Nah...who cares...it's not like I have already set aside funds to buy a commercial VR solution as soon as they get to full release or anything. ;)

Was until I see there is going to be another transition like the dropping out of supercruise transition.
wasnt it promised to be a seemless transition?

Nay! Not until FD supports the Virtual Boy.

I'm afraid that it is going to be awful after what happened with 1.5 beta. Apparently VR best practice is to keep the horizon static but all the pre release videos (which don't show VR yet) the horizon is all over the show, vomit comet if this is the status quo for VR too.

I am excited, but alas, I don't yet have a VR headset. I've been waiting to buy commercial release headset and I've been waiting to upgrade my computer. Well, I just yesterday finally ordered my custom built, black friday computer. But still no word on when I'll be able to buy a VR headset. I'm really hopeful for getting one this year, although it may be misplaced hope.

That is what I thought too. I too was disappointed when I saw that but I'll withhold judgement until the beta lands and we get to play with it. I'm sure there will be much discussion around it.

I believe Oculus DK2 kits are still on sale. It won't be quite as good as CV1 but it is still majorly awesome and considering CV1 could be at least 4 months away yet. It is not like you won't get much use from it.

In the 1.5 beta, SC Judder completely gone (for me anyways).

970 in SLI - 6.0.1 runtime - 358.5 NV drivers :)

Worked loverly....

Nosh

Even with 6.0.1? I get grey flashes and other visual and head tracking problems with 6.0.1 and ED. Even FD say not to use it.

Also, have you tried with the latest NV drivers?

Finally, try fuel scooping and see if the problem comes back during the scoop.

It's a weird twilight zone situation for me:

I felt compelled to pre-order horizons beta although I largely found the bouncy moon videos somewhat dull. I love the design of the vehicles but have seen little more than bouncing over dry rocks and driving around empty bases.

I'm hoping there is more to do than the videos show (there was that one combat video but little else really).

Octopus rift makes everything amazing though. I was trying out some flight techniques on the first training mission last night and never cease to be in awe about how amazing it looks in VR.

I'm really looking forward to Elite and VR next year!

I've been searching the internet almost everyday to try and find release info for the Vive and Oculus. I even went over 100 miles earlier this year to go to EGX, solely to try Elite on the Vive... but didn't have an appointment so returned home disappointed.

It'll probably end up being March 31st and they'll both come at once! Hopefully we'll be able to purchase the consumer versions soon to for Horizons :)

Fly safe,
Evolution

Guys, I've looked around a bit to try to find this out (admittedly just a few minutes) but struck out...

What is there going to be to do on initial launch of Horizons? All I have seen is basically a quad bike simulator on planets with no atmosphere and a different take on mining. Is this it at first and the good stuff like crafting etc will come later? I'm trying to decide if it's worth jumping in at launch or waiting to see how it pans out. Just cautious that quad biking might turn out to be a novelty and something not often done except for an occasional change of pace. I've been burnt on pre-orders before and vowed to now use the "wait and see" approach with upcoming games.
