Anyone else noticed other games like ED?

Please, everyone knows Star Citizen is the best of the lot.

I mean, why would they be selling ships for 400$ and lasers 15$ apiece if they weren't the absolute *BEST*? Matter of fact, they're so far above Elite that for their community, this game and X Rebirth are basically indistiguishable.

Aw dude, and here this other SC representative was trying to convince me that the SC forums are totally overflowing with fair love for ED :)

Back om topic:

Evochron Mercenaries is a lot like Elite. Even has planetary landings, even though those are meh.

Starshatter has cool seamless planetfall, and you can control a huge battlecruiser as well as small space fighters. There's also a really awesome babylon 5 mod for that game :)

I think it's awesome that there's a lot of space games in the pipe, SC vs. ED not so much.
Yup, we see a real renascence there... although, aside from ED and SC, I don't see many really promising contenders yet. Will be interesting to see what happen when the big publishers catch up to the trend, and flood the market with cheap know offs. ;)

Wouldn't it be simply amazing if we could get ALL these developers working on the same game? Holy crap imagine if that happened one day.

Or even more miraculous, if multiple games could be merged into a single seamless galaxy. SC in one area, No Man's land in another and on and on, all seamlessly working together. Impossible I know but, it would be fantastic.

No, that would be an utter disaster!

Basically I think the different design leads would end up killing each other! :D

For example, No Man's Sky is touting the PG thing with how many systems and the time it would take to explore everything. http://www.pcgamesn.com/no-mans-sky/no-mans-sky-wont-be-infinite-it-might-well-be

Another, Enemy-Star fighter plays (to my eyes) extremely close to ED and take a look at the links video at :20, look familiar?

There's more, I'm too lazy and this isn't important enough to dig them out but, I think it's rather faltering in some respects, at the very least a boon for gamers.

Is it just me or are there a lot of games coming soon that has a lot of the same basic ideas ED does? I'm not suggesting anyone has "borrowed" anything from some one else, just that the similarities certain aspects of various games have with ED.

Maybe I'm looking too hard but, I see ED in a lot of things and thats all good in my eyes. :D

Elite is like what Lord of the Rings is to fantasy. A seminal piece within the genre. The fact its ideas can be seen in other games is understandable.

There are many games that are copies, derivatives, inspired by, influenced by, similar to, not unlike etc.

And then there is Elite :)

There has certainly been a resurgence of the genre in general in the last few years. A good thing.

I love Elite as much as the next guy.. but lets not fool ourselves. Elite is one amongst the many great sci-fi games out there. I wouldn't call it something unique as a whole - in its own ways, yes, but not entirely.

All the other games are there to ride the wave that Elite: Dangerous is going to create.

I think it's awesome. Plenty of choice for everyone. It's Elite for me, but the others also have unique aspects to bring to the table.

Support them all. Getting partisan over one game is pointless.
