Not often that I agree with your standpointA non-intrusive ad that is also free stuff? I'm perfectly okay with that.
I am torn on this.
It's a really cool way to do a competition.
On the other hand, I do not want advertisements in my game. That's not on, to be honest, in a full price retail game, which has a cosmetic store too.
If this is kept to a minimum, it's fine, and well done to the people at FDEV for integrating it into the game in an interesting way. But if this becomes too common, it will just feel cheap. In game ads always make it feel like a crappy free to play title.
Be careful with stuff like this please, it's all I ask.
Imagine if you found it, and you broke it trying to scoop it up..
Nope, like me you paid extra to test the game at Beta, Gamma & in your case get the expansions for free (I upgraded my KS to Open Beta and just missed out on the Pass). We did not pay extra to "not see immersion breaking adverts".Even if it is a competition, it's still crass. And I didn't pay all that money at PB (+Lifetime Expansion Pass) to see immersion breaking adverts.
I think it is a fun idea too...but the realism/immersion crowd certainly has a bone to pick here. What the heck is a space ship commander gonna do with a discrete graphics card from 2015? The HUD seems to work fine without it![]()
Can someone post the Galnet news article you are all talking about? Some people can't get in game at the moment and are intrigued what the fuss is all about (ie me!).
hmmmm. I do love a mystery. But I hate in game advertising.
Don't like it? Ask FD to make Elite be subscription based. NVidia is giving you a chance at getting their latest free video card and you complain? That's nothing short of ignorance.
Seriously though, the future should NOT devoid of advertising. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing a Coca-Cola or Pepsi sign here and there. It would bring a little familiarity to an alien universe. Hell hearing a little commercial while sitting in a port would add more ambiance. I seem to remember the Blade Runner future was nothing BUT advertising.
