Anyone else searching for the NVIDIA Geforce GTX Titan Black?

Just curious - to those who disapprove of this campaign, how do you see FD maintaining income to operate an online game and provide ongoing support and development, when there is no subscription fee and a miniscule online store?

If this is what we have to deal with in lieu of a sub or even worse the development work drying up, I'm all for it. There's even a benefit to 5 lucky players at the end of it all - can't see any downside to this. Still waiting to see someone post an actual solid negative to the approach they've taken with this promotion and how it's being executed.

Careful now

I am torn on this.

It's a really cool way to do a competition.

On the other hand, I do not want advertisements in my game. That's not on, to be honest, in a full price retail game, which has a cosmetic store too.

If this is kept to a minimum, it's fine, and well done to the people at FDEV for integrating it into the game in an interesting way. But if this becomes too common, it will just feel cheap. In game ads always make it feel like a crappy free to play title.

Be careful with stuff like this please, it's all I ask.

I quoted the above post to ensure it didn't get buried. I think I'm happier about the way the promotion is being handled, but I also share your concerns that it could be the start of a slippery slope.

A competition that just involves sheer dumb luck. At last something I have a remote chance of winning. :)

you fool!!! they're going to sell polo shirts!! and fancy t-shirts!! and special premium expansion packs, that are shiny black with gold trim!! people will rush to place orders!!!

I for one like it and if I didn't would just ignore it and get on with the game, no one is making anyone join in it's just another choice for something to do in game.

Not so sure I want one of these "black" things. I mean legacy technology is all well and good, but something going back almost 13 centuries? I've found ancient artefacts more recent than that.

Still it doesn't have a holographic feature, just plain old flat screen, and probably has less processing power than my watch.

So actually I'm really sure I don't want one of these.

(hah - I'll be keeping an eye out just like everyone else who isn't taking part)

OK, I've got a canister of beer and another of Tranquil tea saved up for the next competition.

I hope it's soon, because the first mate is getting thirsty.

Honestly, I would find things like McDonald's, Coke, Pepsi adverts on the holo-billboards pretty cool to see in game, especially after the ED artwork team got a hold of them.

I second that. flying past the banners into the slot, getting distracted and ending up in the cow catcher. LOL

I would appreciate the option to turn ads off. They only add more clutter to sift through in Galnet. If ads were relevant to the "story", fair enough. But they're not. They're immersion breaking.

This, though I think the GalNet stuff is pretty benign...it would be nice to have the option to turn it off it it isn't related to ongoing in-game storylines...rather than just a rewording to make it "fit in"

I think this would be especially important if/when banner ads come to stations. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing them, and have no issue pulling in ad revenue for Frontier by ignoring some signs that I was ignoring before.

However, it needs to be optional.

I like these events, and i know some people don't like to see such things in game.
But let's be realistic, it's not hard to ignore if you see it in galnet and besides it's not like the really annoying ads on the android/iphones.
If it was flashing in big letters on the bottom of the screen than i would agree and say its immersion breaking.

Having full motion commercials on the holo screens would be freakin awesome! I imagine that people would stop and watch a current products commercial, especially if it was done in an immersive year 3300 kind of way.

Hell, even Harley Davidson hover bikes for planetary use...the entertainment value of well done advertisement could be endless.

In my thinking, corporations in the 34th century would just inception the crap out of everyone.

1:"I want Taco Bell feeder attachment for my Remlok mask"

2:"Why"

1:"Uhm, cuz I need it, of course"

2:"Hmm, I want one now too, weird"

It never ceases to amaze me to see how effective the results of continued life long indoctrination works out. The general conformity of the masses is nauseating. I paid to purchase a game, not to be drilled with ads. And my game enjoyment would be rather reduced by being drilled with advertisements as I play.

This won't be a good step, and Braben needs to think carefully about this whilst hes eyeing up his future bank balance. ;)

It has nothing to do with indoctrination at all, and to be honest, the LACK of advertising, combined with repetitive fictional companies in this game seems immersion breaking to me. It's not normal in an obviously consumer driven galactic economy. I think of immersive, futuristic movies such as Blade Runner, Total Recall, even Back to the Future, and I loved looking at the details in the advertising.

It has always interested me how there is such a stark difference between people's reactions to advertising. I think going so far as to basically call everyone a nauseating mass of conformity is a bit harsh and unfair, though I can see where the sentiment comes from.

Some folks really feel assaulted by advertising. So much so that it becomes offensive and causes anger and foments a negative view of the brand being advertised.

Other folks, are completely drawn in by advertising, willingly looking for their next consumer item. Even go so far as to become brand loyalists that hang on every ad.

Finally, other folks still, are just oblivious to advertising (me, for example). It doesn't bother me and almost none of it really convinces me to buy anything. Though, I'll admit, I've been swayed by some advertising when the other choices are nonexistent or completely drowned out (or when I know nothing about life insurance, lol). Some ads are done well and worth appreciation, but that is as far as it goes.

I simply can't allow a card like this, so I dont mind if I am able to read about this event in the news(I am shure i am not the only one). It's not a gamebreaker, it's not flashing, and its a realy rare event. However dont worry, now I cant find this news anywhere even in the galnet archive
