Anyone else terrible at building?

There is no better way to learn about an object. What are the size relations? What are the angles? What the little details that add to the overall picture? But again, this is probably taking things too far ...

This is honestly what helps me build more realistically. I'm not a very creative person and I can quickly go over the top and it ends up looking tacky or not real. Sometimes it's better to go with something simplistic, for me at least.

When i started planet coaster and started sandbox mode i closed the game a lot of times instantly, because i just had no idea how to start and what to do. So many beatiful parks on reddit and youtube and im sitting here with a lot of time and motivated - but just with no idea what to build and how to build...

Well, i get the same feelings when i start a new zoo at PZ, but i dont quit anymore xD

First thing ist to accept that your first buildings will never be as good as the ones you see on youtube, made by players with hundreds of hours of playtime. When its about learning how to build, i recommend you to use a blueprint and start editing it. Take this building and start to edit it, maybe its getting not that beatiful, but just dont care. Youre building mate. And the more you do this, the more youll learn. And soon you will start building your own simple buildings with the tools and skills you just got by editing the the blueprints in your way.

Wont take long and youve built your first own buildings and the more experience you get, the better you will get and yout skills gonna increase. Like with everything in life: learning by doing.

When its about you dont know what to build, so search through the internet for some ideas or just start doing some random stuff. For me a lot of ideas are coming whilr building. Im buildinh for half an hour and suddenly i get an idea and think "well, lets delete this and this and i gonna do it new in a better way!". I really like to relate the pathing system into my buildings (but thats not that easy at the start. Path-system will make you crazy sometimes when youve build for some time. Its very sensitive...)

I mean, just DO something and dont be mad, your buildings aint as good as of other players with a lot more experience. The more you build the better your results will be. Promise!

Sometimes it's best to just place barebone pieces down until you get an idea for what you want.

I struggle so hard at starting, especially an entrance plaza. I have no idea which way the paths should veer off, no idea what size paths, how big the plaza should be. Do I plan for the future and incorporate that now?

Then I just get to throwing things down, they don't look pretty but they're bringing in an income and Guests. As the zoo grows youll then start working on that entrance plaza, spruce it up with a welcome sign and some plants and some seating. And then just behind that some shops and facilities for the guests. Then you may decide that the first exhibit needs improving and you'll do it all piece by piece bit by bit.

None of the building work needs to be done in one go. Make something that will just do for now and then go back and improve upon it by adding a better roof or adding decor.

Eventually you'll have a zoo that looks natural and legit, like it started from humble beginings and then grew, because that's exactly what it did.

You can make a boxy building look real nice too! Just try to add extra details. Put in some windows and doors, maybe use a wall detail to make a trim, put down some plants, add some columns to the corners, etc. Most RL buildings are just boxes with stuff attached to it! :D

Also, ctrl+x is your friend! Copy and pasting things is a life saver when you are trying to get everything to line up right.

We all start small. It's learning by doing, don't give up!

Absolutely nobody will simply join this game and pull breathtaking stuff out of its sleeve right from the beginning, without any preparation or previous knowledge. This is THE learning curve in this game - and the most challenging in my opinion. But it's the one which rewards you the most in the end!

Especially these beautiful and elaborate designs you're talkin about are always combined with a lot of preparation/learning/experimenting hours followed by an large number of construction hours. I'm not talking about numbers like 10/50/100 hours or so... It's more, much more. A lot of the players which already created such a design played f.e. Planet Coaster for houndred of hours and/or already spend a lot of time in Planet Zoo.

Over and above that, to develop these designs you have to copy things from other peoples by watching pictures, videos, check social medias, disassemble workshop content and last but not least you have to experiment by yourself.

Often it helps a lot to have a real picture/plan. Have a look at it and, after you know the building parts the game got a bit, simply put things together until it gets closer and closer to the picture and until you are satisfied. This works very often, but not always - Sometimes you have to compromise or cancel.

You will need a lot of time for that. The more systematic and creative you are the faster you will learn. That's the price you have to pay to become a creator of cool designs :)

Cheers

Agathorn , Silhoutte and Garyd73 already said everything I would say to to your frustration. I can't add much more to it, just to give the game a chance to find your own creative ways... trying to copy somebody is never a good thing (like in real life 😉).

Once you get more used to it and maybe saw what you can do with some pieces in that kind of YouTube Videos your mind will create it's own style with the knowlege and you will enjoy it. ❤

🍀

It surely needs time, a little bit practice and patience, but if you wish to become better you will become better every time you try.

Those YouTubers weren't that good on the first day in a planet game, they had tons of help threw people who watched their videos and had ideas on issues and how to control the stuff they want to do - they had to learn too and since PZ has complete new pieces they have to figure out too how they can use it, like you can see by Rudi Rennkamel or DeLadysigner who are telling that in their videos too - they just a little ahead, because they used PC very simular. Be fair to yourself and give it some time, you'll learn it to be perfect for you.

BIG HUG 🤗 to make you feel a little bit better.
