anyone else think the cannons look silly?

Hi, I still cant understand what the guns are doing there, blocking the view of the pilot, and looking just plain odd and cramped, somehow not completely dimensionally plausible either. Why not move them further out of view?

So far they are only really visible on the sidewinder, on the Cobra only one is visible to the pilot as far as I know. I don't find they get in the way.

Yeah I agree with Zeewolf. As a proud owner of a Cobra the guns aren't in the way. You can see them clearly in the Sidewinder because the Sidewinder is such a small ship. The guns are quite large relative to the ship.

Because Sidewinder is small, and this is only reasonable place where to put them. Other ships have different FOV, thus not having weapons actually visible.

And they don't look odd for me.

I dont think they get in the way either, and IMO the multi cannons on the Sidewinder look great (and sound awesome!). Until we see more ships and cockpits I guess we won't know whether the guns will obscure the view more than the Sidewinder though.

We have Cobra and we don't see guns from cockpit, because of ship size.

I think they look good, and I love the gunports. If you want to appear peaceful, don't draw your sword.

They did look a bit silly to me at first... Then again, they give the Sidewinder it's own personality, so I quite like them for that reason.

As others have said the position of the guns in your view seems to correspond to their position on the hull of the ship. In the case of the Viper (pictured here https://elite.frontier.co.uk/walls/ViperHD16x9.jpg) I would expect that they would be completely out of sight, but that you should get the impression of bullets or laser beams shooting past your cockpit. Also worth checking the position of the guns next time you are flying with past an Anaconda. It has two fixed hard point at its front, but on its underside. These should be totally invisible from its cockpit.

I thought Frontier had put in a WW1 biplane reference for the Sidewinder by having twin machine guns mounted in front of the cockpit.

I kind of agree, but I doubt the position's going to change now. Like others have said though, it should be less of an issue on other ships.

I would like them to be a teensy little bit less cartoony though, and the muzzle flash is a bit overdone (imho).

Looking at the guns in the sidewinder view, you will also see a bit of info regarding heat emission or readyness ? as they glow hotter the more you use them. And cool down again
and retract if i remember correct. quite cool actually. a shame if wasted out of view.

They look anachronistic, yes. If that is what you mean? But then not a lot of the tech makes any sense at all from a far future perspective. Go with it ..

So the cannons are not Canon enough? Shocking news. I hope they go for an aesthetical placement on the Courier. But would not cry if it looks slightly kick-aaahhh... you know the word. :p

hi, after reading all the replies to this post (and having played a few more games myself), I think i have changed my mind somewhat - it may just be, as someone posted here, the cartoony style, that i will have to get used to.

then again, the galaxy has been so beautifully realistically rendered, and then we get this slightly cartoony feel from the cockpit - somehow it just doesnt feel.... 'right', for lack of a better word.
